Hello,

a friend of mine who is american (I'm from France) told me that public schools in the USA were more about making sheep easy to manipulate than educated people. He admited there were a few good ones but that it was rare and that private schools or homeschooling was a much better solution to give children a good education in his country. Is it true?

(I'm sorry if there are english faults, if you want to correct them please do so )

  1. The rich white people schools are good.

The poor black peoplw schools are the worst.

It depends where you live. If you live in an upper-middle class town, you will have a great education. If you live in a poor area, the schools are bad.

  2. No, it is true that there are some poorly funded inner city schools, but for the most part the United States has a superior education system, including college and university.

  3. no puplic schools are great homschooling u dont get any friends at public school u can get lots of freinds

  4. There are public schools that are bad, but that's true in any country. Mine is pretty good. There's almost no bulllying , the teachers are great, and you learn a lot if you try.

  5. There are some bad public schools but there are also some good ones too. I personally like private schools better i have gone to both and private school are better to me but everyone has there opinion.

  6. depends where you live.  the public schools in my area (NJ) put there students in some of the best universities in the world...  Homeschooling is not done in this area of the USA (northeast) and its rare that kids go to private school over public...

  7. A lot of public schools in poor school districts suffer. They don't attract the best teachers and don't have money to fund other important activities or even a decent library. I did send some of my children to private schools, but I couldn't afford to send them all.Private schools also have their weaknesses. Teachers Unions create a lot of problems. Try and get rid of a lousy union teacher-it's practically impossible.

  8. It really depends on where you are going to school. Some states have better education programs than others, this is usually because the way people live in those states.  You will find that the better public schools are in large to medium size suburbs.  Just because you go to a private school or you are home schooled doesn't mean you are getting a better education.

I have attended public schools my entire life.  I am an IB diploma candidate and have done good on my tests.  I see no problems with education at my school and I am happy there.

You shouldn't believe everything you hear.

  9. depends on where you live. I live in the northwest, and my public high school, is one of the best in my area. In acedemics, we beat kids, from private schools. In sports, we have won many state champion ships. and in behavior of students, well lets just say, there aren't bullies, and very few drugies.

  10. He'd say the same about French education if he went to school in France.  He feels that the point to school is to turn you into a good citizen rather than to really educate a person.

There are many good public school systems in the US, and a lot of bad ones.  Homeschooling is a good option if you have the resources--a parent who is well-educated but has time to teach their children being one of the toughest to find.  Obviously one-on-one teaching works better than being part of a class of thirty students, if the teacher is good.

  11. Well, my public school is on the list of the top 100 schools in america -- including private schools. While I'm sure your friend is correct about some schools in the no where states, he can't say public schools aren't as good as private.
