  1. Been here for a month, and only the bus drivers have been rude to me.  The worst I've encountered aside from that is just everyone asking me if I like George Bush, but since I don't it's not a problem.  Please, don't just assume everyone speaks English, though many do.  Find a pocket dictionary and at least learn a few phrases like "Entschuldigung" (excuse me), "tut mir leid" (sorry), "wo ist der..." (where is the...).  The more German you pick up the better.  It not only makes life easier, it also starts to get away from the American stereotypes.

  2. Yes normally they are welcome but keep your eyes open there are some 'n**i Trolls' around. :))

I guess they have been living in the jungle of South America since WW2 or under some stone and at a given oportunity they come crwaling back to Germany looks you haven't done your job as you should have in 1945!!

  3. You are welcome. Learn a few words/phrases in german. It helps.

    Many people speak english.

    Have fun !

  4. i hope so.  i have a friend going over there end of summer for vacation.

  5. your questions were pretty stupid

maybe that is why we couldnt answer better?

  6. I lived in Germany for a year and never had a problem with anybody or felt like I was unwelcome.  I think travelers who conduct themselves well (aren't loud, rude, or negative) are received well.  I'd also recommend learning a few phrases in German, like 'please,' 'thank you,' and 'excuse me, do you speak english?'

  7. Yes, their Euros are as good as anybody else's.

  8. Don't be concerned about traveling to Germany. Americans are welcome there. Most of the rude people who are answering are probably not German.

I've been to Germany six times and have never had any difficulties with the locals or encountered rudeness. I've also been to most other countries in western Europe multiple times (20+ total trips) and have had positive experiences.

Yes, some Americans may not be treated nicely. Some Americans are poor representatives of our country. They want everything in English. They want American-style food served at the time that they have dinner at home. They are critical when things are not like they are at home. Then, they think that  the locals are rude if they won't put up with it. You may have heard the phrase "ugly American." Well, they exist.

European countries have their own distinct customs, cultures, and foods. As long as you respect that, you'll have a great time. Relax and enjoy your trip.

  9. Yes American travellers are very well welcome...we just don't like trolls...
