Question:

Are Americans really that upset about ceding their Olympic superiority to the Chinese?

At first I was a little sad that my great country would fall short of China... but then I realized it's no big deal and I was actually very happy for China.

But it seems I'm the minority.

I've been hearing quite a bit about "unfair scoring", especially in Women's gymnastics. I thought the scoring was very fair... China was simply better.

Are a lot of Americans struggling to accept that China has done the hard work necessary to take the Olympic throne? It's not the end of the world, fellow-Americans. Our team is still doing great and will lock up a solid #2 in gold medals won.

  1. We're not conceding our "superiority" to anyone!  Wait till the track and field events start, then the medals will roll in faster.

    1.  Dominance in swimming

    2.  Dominance in gymnastics

    3.  Fencing 1/2/3/ finish

    4.  Shooting medals

Karma will bite China back because of the communist official's influence on the judges, the judges being threatened behind closed doors to give China an "edge" in scoring (see all the mistakes that China made in gymnastics, but still received high scores.....) and entering underaged children in Olympic competition.  Something bad will happen to China such as getting fully investigated, the IOC being sued by nation's Olympic Committees and their medals and records being reversed.

  2. Your right in saying China has done a great job at the 08 Olympics.  They've worked very hard knowing they are the host nation and trying to win as many medals as possible.  I expected China to lead the medal count the first week, but just wait though until Track & Field starts later this week and you'll see the USA get the lead of the medal count (overall and gold) for good.

  3. Yes, China was better, but while the Chinese girls were AMAZING, and there were some serious mistakes on the American side, people are rightly upset that China is cheating by using underage girls.

    From the New York Times:

"In Chinese newspaper profiles this year, He was listed as 14, too young for the Beijing Games.

"The Times found two online records of official registration lists of Chinese gymnasts that list He’s birthday as Jan. 1, 1994, which would make her 14. A 2007 national registry of Chinese gymnasts — now blocked in China but viewable through Google cache — shows He’s age as '1994.1.1.'

"Another registration list that is unblocked, dated Jan. 27, 2006, and regarding an 'intercity' competition in Chengdu, China, also lists He’s birthday as Jan. 1, 1994. That date differs by two years from the birth date of Jan. 1, 1992, listed on He’s passport, which was issued Feb. 14, 2008."

An admission of cheating in 2000:

"Yang Yun of China won individual and team bronze medals at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and later said in an interview on state-run television that she had been 14 at the time of those Games. A Hunan Province sports administration report also said later that she had been 14 when she competed in Sydney."

    China's People's Daily newspaper stating He Kexin's age as 14 on May 23, 2008:

"Olympic gymnastics title contenders suddenly have one more thing to worry about other than the eight gold medals China claimed at the Tianjin World Cup last week. Her name is He Kexin.

"The 14-year-old newcomer to the national team, who was recruited last year, has raised a lot of eyebrows recently after she broke two world records on the uneven bars in as many months. She will be just one more weapon on an already star-studded Chinese Olympic squad."

  4. yeah i guess it's hard for them to accept failure. But like others have said there's still time & i think us will eventually start getting more gold medals. But i think ppl need to know the meaning of sportsmanship, lose gracefully, instead of whinning when u lose

  5. Truthfully I couldn't care less about the Olympics.

  6. The Chinease Men's Gymnasts were completely worthy of the GOLD!

The Woman's or should I dare say "little babies" as Marta Keroli would put are another story.

A sick, sad, story of the Chinease Government stealing "little babies" from their homes, and parents at tender ages and then lying about their ages and forging passports to illegally compete.

Something needs to be done. It will all come out in the end. Maybe years from now like Marion Jones. The USA Women's will get the Gold eventually from the "little babies" or China might just bury the "little babies" far far far away. Shame on you China!!!!!!!

  7. not upset.

Besides, what's wrong with wanting your country to take the gold in every event?

What country doesn't have citizens thinking this?
