  1. Pink gin

    long vodka

you can put them in most spirits

  2. yes they are worth having and they go in several popular drinks and they make the difference in the taste of the drink, alone yes they are nasty. but they do add a certain something to the beverage  i found you a lot of information on all you ever needed to know about  bitters

  3. I once asked a barmaid in my local what they were and she explained and put a few drops in a glass of water for a few people to taste.

We all pulled the same face, not nice.

However it puts me in the mind of the time that my cousin told me that fresh oregano was not necessarily any better than dried and it was just a 'faff' we both however agreed that faffing was nice.

so yes buy some and faff away, at the very least they'll be a conversation point and may also encourage you to broaden your horizons in finding new recipes to use them in.

I agree with you,fun is fun.

  4. Bitters are great! You can make Old Fashions (whiskey/brandy, sweet/sour soda, bitters, garnish) and there is this other fabulous

drink I just discovered ? name (ginger beer, vodka, bitters, club soda)

    Cheers!

  5. Pink gin,a favourite of a bygone era of british naval officers, and yes they are nasty if tasted from the bottle.

I have a curios way of using it,shake some onto grated cheese on toast before you put it under the grill,it will flame a little but nothing to worry about, don't leave it too long

  6. yea gin & tonic,,, just dash a few drops on top & hey presto a pink gin delish on a hot day

  7. don't waste your time getting it you will use 1 bottle in 5 years at your home it is not worth using

  8. Be careful when using Angostura, if too much is consumed they can be poisonous - in all reality why bother? +1 on previous answer - the bottle will stay on your shelf for years!!

  9. If you want to make a really thirst quenching drink, you need a pint glass.

Fill half of it with soda water, fill it up with lemonade and add about 10 to15 drops of Angostura Bitter.

Stir it gently and enjoy your "Rock Shandy"

P.S. You want it very cold.

  10. Bitters are a good cure for hick ups, but that's about all I would use it for.....yes there are plenty of recipes that use bitters, but honestly most bartenders don't even use them. You really don't need them especially not for mojitos. As long as you use fresh mint and a good quality rum for your mojitos you've got it made.

As far as freshness goes, I am pretty sure they will keep for a good while, as they are made mostly from herbs and spices.

Here is a link to a website that has all kind of recipes using bitters just in case you decide to buy them:
