Are Arsenal any weaker then the start of last season?

Last season when we had lost Henry and there was talk of a take over with possibly Cesc and others following wenger out of the door, we were written off as not standing a chance of finishing in the top four where in fact we finished nearer the top then the season before, nobody was raving about Flamini and Hleb at the beginning of the season when in fact it was Wenger who chose not to renew Flamini's contract so he had one good season last year, big deal, then there's Hleb who despite turning into a technically brilliant player up to two seasons ago was a sub behind Freddie and I don't think we'll miss eleven goals in three years, so my question is this season and the start of last season what's the difference as we are / were written off on both occasions.. me I'm not as worried apart from perhaps relying on Diaby coming through and perhaps having another experienced central midfielder, that we have too many worries, and in fact we will if fit have just as strong if not stronger squad, because I've seen what's coming through, and there are some class players. we might not set the world alight but won't flop like people are hoping because what our players lack in experience they make up with ability and passion.

  1. Arsenal has a decent squad if Wenger plays Walcott and Nasri down the wings then we might get the goals that Hleb and Eboue never got last season.

The squad is young but strong we will finish top 3 no problem, will be interesting to see what Man U do without Ronaldo.

  2. yes

  3. I would say they are weaker, think the squad is pretty average IMO, aside from Fabregas I dont think there is a "star" player.  I think this season they will finish 4th

  4. keep going terry dunt stop now ; )

as for arsenal no they r NOT AT ALL weak! this season is not new to us we have gone through such things before! as for injuries yes we have many players injured but its not like we have no one left to play! we still have strong players who can beat the very best teams! n as u said we make up for the lack of experience! every team has their strength n weaknesses no matter what even if they r the best in the world! but i can honestly the teams with the weaknesses r the ones that accomplish more than the ones that say they have no weaknesses! so if u believe arsenal does have a weakness then u better watch out becuz u've got SERIOUS competition n that competitions name is ARSENAL!

  5. no i dont think so you could of had it all they wont make that mistake again surely not

  6. Yeah i make you right. As long as we can get injured players back i think the quality of those players will make up for any lack of experience.

  7. I think we are pretty lightweight in the middle of the park, even though Arsenal did buy Amaury Bischoff from Werder Bremen. Our midfield is lacking experience and strength, which will make us rather vulnerable when it comes to defending against strong players such as Drogba and Rooney.

Wenger has said he is satisfied with the players he has and will only buy if he really needs to because of injuries or if he finds a player he believes can have a positive impact on the club. However, you do have to keep in mind that Arsenal have a lot of reserves team-players, less experienced midfielders (for example Denilson) and strikers who can also play in midfield. Same can be said for some of the defenders.

I think that if we are going to challenge for the title, then we are still lacking one, maybe two experienced players (particularly in centre-midfield and centre-back). But we will have to wait and see, the transfer window isn't closed yet, and Wenger can spring a surprise move.

  8. Yeah

  9. nope, they have alot of talent, but they really need to produce this season..what they lack is experience in big matches, temperamant,eg likes of Gilberto,Henry,Lehmann aint their to help the youngsters in big match situation..

  10. no not really

  11. DEFENITELY

  12. We are no weaker...

Its easier for United Chelsea and Liverpool fans (and bloody Mourinho) to write us off at the start of the season to give themselves confidence, which is sad that they need it.

Non Arsenal fans don't know whats going on at Arsenal, and shold probably worry more about their own clubs.

  13. Exactly. Thing is, at the beginning of the last season Flamini wanted to prove himself and I have no doubt that he was looking to leave at the end of the season. There is no way he would have been able to replicate that form for us again this season. That hunger wouldn't have been there. As for Dribble McNoShoot (aka Hleb) we have already replaced him with someone better - Nasri. So I am not worried because I have every ounce of faith that Wenger will bring in an experienced DM. Not only that, I feel he will bring in one more experienced player, in what position, I'm not sure. I'm hoping it will be a centre back because as great as Toure and Gallas are individually, they do not work well as a partnership. They are too similar. Also, this year, I have a feeling Rosicky and Van Persie will remain largely injury free and if they do the PL is ours. Not to mention, Dudu is due back as well. Have faith fellow gunners, Arsene knows what he is doing.

  14. Nothing to be worried about mate, last season everyone wrote us off at the beginning and we lead the Premier League for 7 or 8 months, we were the "best footballing team on their day" in the country according to Steve Mcmahon & Steve McClaren. We ended the season only 4 points behind United, with injuries, lack of depth in our squad, most inexperienced squad in the top 4, least expensive team in the top 4, referees against us, loss of Eduardo etc. That all cost us the title. I'm very excited to see us get to the top and once again do what we did last season destroy everyone in our way & play our game from day one to May. Arsenal also have the easiest first six fixtures, I have no doubt we will be at the top of the League.

  15. No you have the striker with the most deadliest potential in Europe; Carlos Vela.

  16. I think Arsenal still have a good first 11 like they did last season.  However, when injuries and suspensions come into play (like they always do) I can't help feeling you have a weaker squad than the other top teams.  I hope I'm wrong cos Arsenal are a great team to watch

  17. you know no matter what excuses you make arsenal are weaker its all that debt .....

  18. couldnt agree more

everyone last season thought that henry's departure would be a large burden but we proved them all wrong by making a good start and remaining at the top of the league for seven months

this season, its the same thing in addition to everyone claiming our squad is full of inexperienced players ,a statement which i consider quite incorrect

i admit that hleb amd flamini contributed largely to arsenal's performance, but so did henry and the team could still cope fine without him

if the players want to leave, its their choice

we will make the best of our current squad, which is complete and strong enough in my opinion as long as we have the least possible  injuries we can manage

besides, players who are now experienced and quite old have always been inexperienced at the beggining of their career as youngsters and then gradually, over the years they became stars

our young players are expected to be slightly inexperienced yet they can still play wonderful football and score if they give their best and improve as time goes by ie.fabregas who is essentially the star of the team

  19. I dont think we are any weaker at all - Flamini is his own worst enemy, Hleb i don't think we'll miss and Gilberto didn't even get a game - we signed players to replace all of these and he will sign someone else before the end of the month - i'm not worried, people can write us off all they want - they can do their talking on the pitch

  20. Arsenal are weaker but that's because they have injuries and a host of players that are in the molding and are not top class just yet. (by that i mean ready for a title race and are in peak form).
