Are Atheists ***confused*** about who they really are?

I am not sure if people who claim to be "Atheists" have really thought about it carefully enough.

It seems that anyone who dislikes Theism is either an agnostic or an atheist.

Thus, you will find a person claim to be an Atheist..

"...oh, and btw I am also a Pagan!"

An Atheistic Pagan?! How can you possibly adhere to atheism as well as nature worship, including magic and polytheism?

"I am a Deist ...that's Atheist to you"!

Wtf??? How can you be a Deist AND an Atheist?

"No, wait up, I'm actually a Pandeist...and an Atheist!"

h**l-o-o-o! If you accept *any* definition of a "Supreme Being" you *cannot* be an Atheist.

Why do people have to be so abstruse?

  1. People can be whatever they wanna be. It's their life so it's their choice.

Can I ask why it bothers you so much?

  2. Yep, I've noticed a lot of that "I'm an atheist and a deist!" thing.  Uh - no, you're not.

Although I think pantheism is unfortunately named and it needs a new moniker.  Pantheism is the reverence for nature, without the inclusion of spiritual/supernatural beings of any kind, including the deistic version of gods.  Pantheism is "naturophilia," if you will.  We need to get the "theism" out of that word.  It's so inaccurate.

  3. I'm an atheist and a Buddhist.

I have no problem with theism. As a matter of fact, I encouraged my daughter's search for her path and support her decision to be a Catholic.

I am an atheist simply because I do not believe in any gods, not because I hold animosity for any gods or their followers. I am a Buddhist because I have studied the teachings of Buddhism and found them to be of much value. I do not worship Buddha as a god and therefore see no inconsistency in saying that I am an atheist and Buddhist.

  4. People do say silly things. However, I can guarantee you that I actually am an atheist and do not believe anything spiritual and/or religious.

  5. I don't care what others say. It is very simple, you either believe there is a god or you don't. I don't believe there is a god but my life does not evolve around the fact the god(s) do not exist. Some people make things so complicated by defining sub-categories for atheism as well as theism when it reality this is a simple 'yes' or 'no' question.

  6. Atheism simply is a disbelief in any sky fairies.  Other than that, atheists can be spiritual, you know.

  7. Well, I can't speak for those "confused" people as I was born right the first time.  However, in their defense I have to say that it sounds to me it's just like the hypocrites who claim to be Christians but go around raping little boys, getting drunk, cheating on their spouses, doing drugs, etc. but think that for as long as they cry Jaysus, everything is h****y dorey and nobody has the right to see what they're doing wrong

  8. no

are beleivers confused about who they really are?

there is just as many sects and groups with differing opinions and beliefs

  9. i'm atheist and think you make a good point.

obviously the pagans are either misinterpreting the definition of atheist or they just wanna jerk your chain!

  10. God does not believe in Atheists; so Atheists do not exist.

  11. I am convinced that the existence of a God or gods is very improbable. That's it. That's all.

  12. I've never seen anyone try to define "deist" and "atheist" as the same thing. However, you certainly can be part of a spiritual group that doesn't believe in a deity, which would mean you are still an atheist.

  13. In response to you question, I have to agree some people do not understand what they believe.

To me Atheism is the rejection (or non-belief) of the supernatural. The supernatural being: God, Allah, angels, djin, houris, magic, miracles, heaven, h**l, ghosts, spirits, sprites, demons, Satan, cherubs, Mythology, literature of mythology (The Bible, Al Qu'ran, Torah...etc.), Nirvana,...etc.

When Atheism is defined as no belief in God or Gods, I believe God is one of many labels for the supernatural.

  14. No, I am fairly certain that they are well entrenched in their belief.

    Confused, but entrenched.

  15. As if it only applies for religion?

Ive seen people runnign around claiming their German/italian/asian, yet have no corresponding relatives. Or people saying their straight, yet occasionall have s*x with the same gender. Or people who believe that bullshit only comes from certain sources.

  16. My main man you are confused if you are thinking that your hat is cool.

  17. 1. What seems isn't necessarily so.

    2. A pagan can be an atheist.

    3. A deist is not an atheist.

    4. A pandeist can be an atheist...semantically.

  18. >>>Are Atheists ***confused*** about who they really are?

    This atheist isn't.

    >>>I am not sure if people who claim to be "Atheists" have really thought about it carefully enough.

What is there to think about?

    Do I believe in gods?

    No.

    Ergo, I am an atheist.

    >>>It seems that anyone who dislikes Theism is either an agnostic or an atheist.

Probably, but that doesn't mean that every atheist or agnostic, dislikes theism.

So many straw men, and even with them, you have no point to make.

If the description is a metaphor, then it is not a supreme being, unless your supreme being is also a metaphor.

How delicious, a metaphor for a metaphor.

    >>>Why do people have to be so abstruse?

There is no abstruseness, only your own obtuseness.

Whether you are atheist, or theist, or something in between, is irrelevant, but one thing I am sure of, is that you are dishonest in the extreem;  that fact alone points to you being a christian

  19. I just don't believe in God, I don't follow anything else.

  20. I went to school today, maybe it will help you if you try the same.

  21. Troll, I'm almost 40 yrs old and I'm not confused about a f*cking thing.

God is a man made idea to repress society.

Jesus is a copy of gods that came before him. They all lived the exact same life, over and over again. Your junior god, jesus, is proved to be a fake. Grow up and face reality!

  22. I don't see how someone could be a Deist and an atheist at the same time.  I'll agree with you on that one.  So yes, some people who adopt the label "atheist" do so incorrectly.

An atheist just doesn't believe in a god or gods.  Outside of that, they can worship and believe in whatever they want, and they would still technically be atheists.

That said, I guess I sort of see a point to your question.  I personally don't believe in a god/ gods, or any supernatural beings or phenomena whatsoever.  Nature is just a bunch of carbon and organic material to me.  I'm not going to worship anything.  But some people find just the ritual of spiritual belief is somehow helpful or cathartic.  So they've adopted Pagan rituals without adopting any concomitant theistic belief.  That's not really my thing, but if someone chooses to do so, they'd still technically be atheists, wouldn't they?

But even if you're right, and some atheists are confused, I assure you that a lot of us are not.  We know what the label means, and it does apply to us accurately.

  23. i'm an atheist. not a pagan, not a deist, or anything else you mentioned but you seem to have included me there.

i've never seen anyone claim they're deist and atheist

atheists just don't believe in gods. other than that, you're confused with your definition of atheism.

  24. Er, you may have heard those things once or twice, but the vast majority of atheists would never claim to be deists or pagans. Your question isn't about confused atheists, it's about confused deists and pagans.

  25. Theists are confused about who they really are.  If they think about it they have no proof that there is a god and so they are all agnostic.

But yes, many use the word 'atheist' interchangeably with 'non-believer', which is incorrect.  Many of them do this to distance themselves from the scourge of belief which they abhor so strongly.

  26. Why do you care?  If a person's beliefs aren't hurting you, why should you even wory about it?  Just let people be happy!  Why is that so hard?!

  27. Oh f it all.  I agree with the pastor, that probably means the world's coming to an end.

  28. Tell Me...

Do YOU wanna end up with a big "rooster" in your mouth, or do you wanna end up like "Reverand Kip"???

  29. Project much ?

In any case, while I'm an atheist and no sort of other grouping, such as pagan, I can see how one could be both. All that means is that such a person's pagan beliefs DON'T include any sort of supernatural deity.

Perhaps it is YOU who is confused as to what else a person who doesn't believe in any supernatural deities can believe in.

Oh, a pandeist just worships pandas... They're so cute.

  30. I never heard anyone say that they're an atheist and that they believe a god or gods exist.  That just wouldn't make any sense.

  31. Hmm? I can't answer for others but I have no belief in god/s. So I'm technically defined as an atheist. Nothing to do really with who I am - i mean i have bigger fish to fry. Religion is not important to me (and I know I'm lucky that I can say that since I don't live in america or the middle east or something).

to be fair I don't really understand the deist & atheist thing either - maybe they are just saying the "force" :D or whatever they believe in is a million miles away from the type of god you all believe in.
