  1. The horses are certainly respected here in the UK.  The likes of Choisir and Miss Andretti spring to mind.

I remember seeing Choisir in the flesh at Newmarket for the July Cup and I couldn't get over his size: he looked like a bull!  I've never seen such a backside on a horse!

The problem with all jockeys is that they are familiar with their home racetracks and as such, unless they regularly travel abroad, never really get on well in other countries.

For example most Americans will only remember Frankie Dettori for his shocking ride aboard Swain in the Breeders' Cup, but over here he is one of our top riders.  Also Yutaka Take is the best jockey Japan has ever had and is treated like a rockstar in his home country, but when he comes to ride in Europe he never quite seems able to reproduce that form.

  2. Yes, of course!! Ever heard of the most wonderful, beautiful and best place in the world- Ireland. The country full of horse racing and great craic.

  3. i read about them in my bloodhorse magazine here in the states.  it's so hard to keep up though, since our horses rarely race there and vice versa.

  4. not really in america. most Americans don't even know American jockeys. i know its sad.

  5. They certainly are, particularly in Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates.......

  6. I'm a keen racing enthusiast i live in England and i couldn't name one Australian horse or jockey . sorry
