  1. Faeries are winning more tournaments than any other deck in Type 2 (a format where you can only play with cards from the last two years or so).  Cards like thoughseize, mutavault, and bitterblossom make the deck cost hundreds of dollars. It is one of the most expensive decks around.

For firsthand information from Magic's website:

  2. well it depends on who makes the deck and who is playing the deck i have beaten many of those decks with my madness deck and elemental deck

  3. Right this second, using the professionals to gage the decks, yes it is the most powerful STANDARD deck. Bitterblossom is an amazing card, and combined with the other faeries, it makes an incredible deck. The most expensive decks are probably the Green/Red mana ramps that are the competition to the Blue/Black faeries. Gruuk Wildspeaker is $25 each, Chameleon Colossus is $20 each, and Tarmogoyf is a whopping $60-80 each. Bitterblossom is $20 each and thoughtseize is $25 each. The reason Tarmogoyf is so costly is because it is a futuresight block card that is the most powerful cost/strength ratio card out, and is used in all formats beyond standard. It really revolutionized tournament play after it was out. On top of that, it is futureshifted, which means another cycle coming out will release it again. That means that it will cycle back into standard in the future at some point.

So faeries: most powerful, not most expensive.
