Question:

Are BWI, Reagan, and Dulles all accessible by the metro system?

I'm from DC and will be able to get there with the map, but for the time when I'm leaving I won't have a car or a ride whatsoever and I won't be using a taxi. But metro-wise I remember hearing that there was one of them that you couldn't get to through the metro. Is that true, and if so, which one(s)?

Thanks.

  1. As others say correctly above BWI and DCA (Washington National) are served by public transportation.  Dulles is also accessible by taking the Orange Line Metro to West Falls Church - then bus coach to Dulles (IAD).  See the link below for bus transfers to Dulles directly.

  2. Reagan National is on the metro line.

Dulles is NOT on the metro line or any other mass transportation.

BWI is on the MARC line, which can be picked up at Union Station, which is on the metro line.

  3. Reagan National has a stop on the blue and yellow lines.

BWI is not on Metro, but does have a stop on MARC which runs weekdays only.

Dulles is not on the Metro system and is the most difficult to get to using public transportation.

  4. Only National Airport is directly serviced by Metro (the Blue and Yellow lines).

You can get the Washington Flyer shuttle ($9 one-way, $16 round-trip) from the West Falls Church station.  There are signs at the station that indicate where you pick up the bus.  It runs every half hour at :15 and :45.

There's an express bus that runs between the Greenbelt Metro and BWI every 40 minutes.  I don't recall offhand how much it is, but you can go to the Metro website (www.wmata.com), and it will tell you how much an express bus is.  If you take Metro, get a transfer where you board the train to reduce your bus fare.
