  1. No, but I personally wouldn't do it. It's bad enough that we have European last names. I mean, we need some sort of identiy when it comes to our names (every other racial groups has thiers).

  2. What is european names? I never heard a black called Jevgenij, Mstislav, Jyrki, Lars, Torsten, Apostolos. You mean english names right? Say so then , I dont think you are afro-centric. you are US-centric. Try thinking outside the box

  3. No. Black people in the U.S. have a more varied heritage than just African. Our heritage often includes European and Native American too. My first name, for instance, is French and it goes with my last name which is also French. My father is half Creole. My grandfather on my mother's side is Dominican with a French first name and a Spanish surname. He spoke only French and Spanish until he was 13. Our heritage includes so much more than sub-Saharan African. Of course it isn't self-hating to give your child a European name.

  4. What in the world are you talking about. Is it a crime to give the name you like?

  5. not at all.

why is it bad to want your kids to fit into a culture that they are part of?

why would anybody name their child a name that had no correlation to him or her except that it's from their ancestors homeland?

besides mainstream american names are more likely to get call backs at job interviews than ethnic.

  6. NO NO NO NO NO

Why do black ppl have to be EXTRA careful with everything they do?

When white ppl tan- its ok

    black ppl bleach- self hate.

White ppl going interacial is ok

Black ppl going interacial - self hate

    wearing weave

    must i go on?

Black ppl should do whatever the h**l they want ok? Your in this world for a few days so enjoy it!! Seriously think about it, being so sensitive and careful is kind of racist because your excluding yourself from others. Why do actions have a different interpretation with black ppl and another meaning with the rest of the world? THAT is racist,

  7. Only if the intentions of naming their child is to make them less "black".

My brothers name, Jaraad Macari Moore, Jaware Mustafa Moore

Mine is Jalita Ayana Fatima  Moore.

We love everything about ourselves and our names, but we dont denounce Billy either

  8. No I'm going to name my son Tad for better job opportunities.

  9. No but the afrocentrists say such things

  10. i dont think so. im not american but ive considered given my future children european names after some of my bestest white friends. people give names for all kind of reasons.

i do think people should think carefully about what name they are giving their children and for what reason. gd question

  11. nahh, I think they just like the sound of the name. My aunt wasn't thinking about some Europeans when she delivered her baby and had to come up with a name, you better believe that!!!!!!! Some members in my family named their kids "kamara" then later they named their other child Michelle, you see? it's just a name :)

  12. Not necessarily self-hating; just ignorant.  You only know what you're taught.

  13. Its a name to me nothing self hating about it.

My family has had Europeans names since they colonized their land.

What should I now name my children when they are born then

Is speaking English self hate to. No its simply because Europeans took our culture so we live on theirs thats how it is.

  14. no, maybe they like europeans names.

  15. No. My name is Rebecca. I was named after my great grandmother who was born under slavery. I think having her name reflects my connection to her and all those who toiled before me. They did not have names like BoQueisha.

  16. I have no idea.  I'm white and can't really encounter this situation.

However, I find African names to be very exotic and interesting.

This wasn't really an answer to anything, but since I was already looking at the post, I figured that I would answer.

  17. No, my name is not your typical black person name, it is a bible name because we are God fearing christians. Do not judge others by their names. Thats silly. Jst me about sums it up!

  18. No...

  19. No.

  20. not at all. my son's name is caleb and its a name that i truly like and his father and i didn't want people to label him as black or white or anything else on paper. we want people to meet him and know him as a person when needing to judge him. but his middle name ali and i plan to make very clear to him that he is a black man first and no one should EVER try to make him ashamed for being such.

  21. No, it is just a matter of assimilating with the prevailing culture.  When in Rome, you live as the Romans if you expect to get along.

People have this obsession with labels and who gets called what.  I have heard of Caucasians being given African-American names, and they get harassed for having them, perhaps even more so from African-Americans.

This whole notion of sell-outs and "not being Black enough" is fairly recent.  I've known African-Americans who were given Anglo names many years ago.  So if it wasn't considered self-loathing then, then why consider it such now?  If anything, I see it as an effort to fit in and be a part of the nation at large.  If Anglos can have Anglo-sounding names, then why not us?  If we are Americans, then what is wrong with acting like Americans?  Just because everything you say and do isn't stereotypically Black, it doesn't mean that you are ashamed of being Black.  Nobody should be ashamed of their culture, just the bad things it does.  Whites certainly have a history to be ashamed of.  So why let the Whites have the luxury of having white-only names?  Why can't the rest of us claim them too?  The ideas of white-only water fountains, restrooms, restaurants, and seats were abolished as racist, and rightfully so, so why have white-only and black-only names?

If couples are mixed, then why can't they give names from both groupings?  Why must it always fall to the one side?  If it is self-hate to not give your child an African-American name when you are mixed or in a mixed relationship, then isn't it equally self-hate to not give them Anglo names?  Maybe compromise would be good.  Like call a daughter "Keisha Michelle" or something.

  22. if u would do something out of ur culture would not make u self hatting .....it just means u like conthing of another culture and i think there is nothing wrong with tht

  23. No, they are not.  Would a black giving their child a more traditional name do this just to show hatred to the Europeans?

  24. no

but blacks who look down on other blacks for giving their kids made-up names are self hating house n!ggas. we should be free to name our kids whatever the h**l we want, and if you have nothin better to do but judge someone elses name then youre a f*cked up person

  25. Not in a desert island with a storm forcasted. Just because they chose to name there kids a European name, it doesn't mean all of the sudden there race baiter's and haters.

Edit: I hate prejudice, do you think it's fine leaving you're brothers full name on the internet?
