  1. --- Not only are brass knuckles illegal in NY State, but so are Plastic brass knuckles. See [a] in the source box.

--- Yes it is illegal even on a belt buckle. It is a misdemeanor to even possess them in any way and a felony to wear them into a fight or while stalking someone.

--- [a]"Currently, it is illegal to possess brass knuckles, and with Governor Paterson signing this important legislation into law, it is now a crime to possess plastic knuckles in New York State. "

--- [a]"Simply possessing one of these deadly weapons would now be a misdemeanor with the possibility of spending up to one year in jail upon conviction.  Displaying, or possessing and threatening to use plastic knuckles while stalking someone will now be punishable as a class E felony with the possibility of spending of up to 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison.  "

--- To Mizz : Yes I certainly do think officers would notice them. I sure know I would have. And, although one might walk around in the crowd and not be noticed what happens when she goes through the turn-styles for the underground where officers often just stand around and watch people who come through? Or more to the point, what happens when she is contacted purely for some innocent cause like being a witness to something or just being in an area where something happened? Or she is stopped for a minor traffic violation and they have her step out of the car?Maybe in a crowd they wouldn't see them but I assure you on a one to one contact they would.

--- Is it really worth it to chance it? And if she does use them, even for purely self defnse she is looking at a couple years in jail. NYC is one of the strictest places in the USA when dealing with weapons. The State is not far behind.

--- I myself think that properly trained, honest citizens with no criminal record should be able to get a permit to carry concealed weapons. However the psychopathicly paranoid mayor of NY as well as the ultra liberal left, as in Obama and Clinton, would have it that no one but cops can be armed in any way. Obama even voted to make it illegal for a citizen to be armed in his own home and voted that a citizen who shot an armed intruder in his own home who was advancing on his daughter should be prosecuted!

--- As long as we have that kind of politician in office the criminals will always be the better armed group.

  2. As a belt buckle, you're probably okay but a real bored police officer might still mess with you for it.

If you're just carrying brass knuckles around...bad idea. Whether it's a felony in NY, I'm not entirely sure but it's probably an arrestable weapons violation if you get caught.

John R -- do you think most would even notice it on a belt buckle? I mean, I would hope so but NY is a crazy crowded place.
