  1. colloquially, at least in Texas, we use bluegill, bream and perch interchangeably, though there are diferent kinds of "perch" which is what we call all the freshwater sunfish down here.  but this is only colloquially.  i think a true perch is a completely different fish.

as for walleye being a perch... i think it's a sometimes called a pike-perch, but it is not a perch, pe se... but then neither are bream.

  2. As far as fisherman go for most part they are same fish. Depending on where in united states you live will depend on what locals call them.

  3. No Bream and Perch are not the same thing. A bream is a sunfish

and a Perch is actually a type of bass

And NO, a bream is not the southern term for Bluegill. Both the Sunfish and the Bluegill are referred to as Bream sometimes, but I usually refer to the Sunfish as a Bream and the Bluegill as a Bluegill, just like all my other southern neighbors. Here is a Bluegill

I hope this answers you question. Be sure to explore that site. It will teach you a lot about the different types of fish as well as different fishing tips and techniques. I have found this site to be VERY useful.

Additional: Btw, the white perch is a type of bass, a yellow perch is just a straight up perch:

    Thought I better verify that...lol.

  4. No, brim is a southern term for "bluegill" and a perch is in the same family as a walleye. I am just adding this after you received several answers.  A brim is indeed a slang term for a bluegill or [okay] a sun fish, and any perch is in the walleye family!!  Whether it's a yellow perch or a white perch!  Look at photos of the two side by side, they are identical except for the size!
