Are Brits more violent than other people

Question

A couple of Chinese were stabbed to death in their flat, after two French students were killed the same way. And think about UK's crime rate-- almost the highest in industrial countries. Are Brits inherently violent, or are they influenced by their culture?

I personally think it's our culture now, it's become almost acceptable to treat other people like dirt.  Respect has gone out of the window, so has tolerance.  I think it's disgusting.  I'm off the France for a two week holiday soon, I almost feel like I should be apologising to every French person I see.

You can't generalise like that.  A lot more Brits are violent now than 10 years ago, but in my opinion this is due to a failing government.  A failing educational system and lack of jobs are the biggest factors.  Parents are uneducated, leaving their children complete freedom to do whatever they want causing children to grow up into yobs.  Also the justice system is not hard enough, people don't mind getting caught for a violent assault because they know they'll get 6 months and a small fine and their life will probably be better behind bars anyway.

Britain is becoming worse and it is running out of time to fix the problem.  We need to take the Educational system of The US, The employment system of France and the justice system of Britain 200 years ago - BRING BACK CAPITAL PUNISHMENT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brits, Violent?? Um.. try living in South Africa;) No kidding.. drive with windows up so u dont get hijacked.. doors locked and closed during day and night in your house so someone doesnt walk in and hold you up.. someone i know was killed for a cellphone.. yeah! so im immigrating to the uk to escape the violence:)

I think that there are some people who have suffered because the family unit in the UK is not as strong as it was and the gang in some places has taken over the family role.  There is also a problem with drugs and teenage drinking which is spiralling out of control.  For many young people alcohol is essential if you are to have a good time.  This leads to drunkenness and violent behaviour.

Usually most of these killings are done in Britain but its usually an immigrant who did the deed.

Not wanting to sound racist but most of the youngsters and people been stabbed to death in the last year was done by black youths who are usually not from this country but live here and live off the state!

No not really especially if you compare the levels of violence that take place in Brazil, South Africa, Guatemala, Shanghai , and Columbia... they have real gang warfare and you have the different sets of gangs that controls drugs, arms , prostitution, money laundering and even slave trade. In the UK its just a bunch of morons who think they are some kind of inevitable strong force , when all they are is bunches of sadistic idiots who would seriously cower away from the real world of gangsters and Big Men who run these corporations like the Triads and Mafia. its probably culture and the way that they have been brought up i live on an estate and ive seen how the parents treat their kids no wonder they grow up like that. and they definatley are more violent than they were ten years ago.

They are since the death penalty was abolished.For the potential thumb-downers....compare the number (even the percentage) of stabbings and shootings in 1950 and 2008. The difference is astounding. All the child torturers, police murderers etc today have to 'fear' is a stint in one of HM's holiday camps ..er , sorry, prisons..with state of the art gymnasia,flat screen TVs, DVDs, computers and computer games, pool tables..etc, etc...hardly a deterrent.

Discipline in schools has also plummeted since Corporal punishment was abolished. The do-gooding, human-rights lot have a lot to answer for.
