  3. My guess is that it's the same with clothes and people in western countries.

    Women wear clothing in western counties willingly but also because they are forced to by laws prohibiting public nudity.

    The idea is the same, it's just the threshold that's different.

  4. They say they choose to in order to cover up and be modest as Allah commands, but I have also heard stories of girls who refused to wear the head covering and were murdered by husbands, fathers, brothers, etc.

It's an element of the culture.  Do American women shave their legs and armpits because they want to or they are forced?  It's rather similar.  However, in some of those cultures, a woman who chooses "not to shave" might be beaten or stoned, so I suppose the element of force is a bit closer to the surface.
