  1. Yes they are excellent for cleaning glasses.

  2. Anything 100% cotton works very well, but it can't be too nappy (no bath towels). I am not sure what CD cleaning cloths are made of, but I hesitate if its anything like my disc cleaner that removes the scratches.  At work we use dish towels (but we clean at least 100 pairs of glasses a day). The very best are microfiber cleaning cloths, you can get them at any eyeglass shop, camera shop, as well as in pharmacy by the reading glasses at any drug store, the are small, clean very well without any cleaner, won't scratch your lenses, and are washable!

  3. My favorite cloths for cleaning eyeglasses are either knit cotton undershirts, or even better are microfiber detailing cloths.  Don't get those little fabric swatch microfiber cloths at optical departments; get the detailing cloths at the automotive department at Walmart.  They're about the size of a wash cloth, not too thick, and you get about ten of them for five dollars.  You'll love them.  Trust me.
