  1. I've done some research and it really depends on which one you are taking. I heard the Intro to Psych and Intro to Sociology ones were easy. There are harder ones. I'm gonna post some links for you to help you further. I plan on taking Intro to Sociology to fulfill a social/behavioral credit at my college. I imagine that you must study for them, its a good way to get rid of general courses/humanities credits.

  2. Some CLEP exams will be easier to pass then others. Just like some nursing exams will be easier to pass then others. Depends in how well you know the material and how well you studied.

The best way to study is go buy a good study guide.  The online type resources are helpful, but I like holding something in my hand to read as well.

  3. The CLEP exams vary greatly in their degree of difficulty.  Analyzying & Interpreting Literature and Introduction to Sociology are the two easiest ones I've taken so far.  Biology & US History II were much more difficult, which is to be expected.  I haven't taken anything related to nursing, so I'm unsure how difficult those are.  As long as you make certain that you're adequately prepared, you should be fine.  Studying for CLEP tests is definitely better (in my opinion) than spending the time & money taking classes that you don't really need to take.

So far as study material, I've used the REA books & InstantCert almost exclusively for the CLEP tests I've taken, and I've been very happy with the results.  You can find the REA books on Amazon or at most large bookstores. They cost around $25 and come with a CD of practice tests. Make sure to read the reviews for the specific test you're taking, as some of the REA books are better than others.

InstantCert is an online study resource. They charge a $20 a month fee, but you have access the study questions for many different subjects. They also have an excellent forum where people give feedback and advice on specific CLEP tests. If you're interested in checking it out, you can get $5 off your first month's fee with coupon code "36438".
