I had a horrible conversation with a California EDD call center employee today (800-300-5616). She was extremly rude and kept cutting me off (never actually answered my original question). When I asked if she had a reference ID she said no and asked "why?". I explained that I was shocked by how unfriendly she was. She said "I answered your questions...that's all you need, ya?". I explained I expected at least a little bit of customer service as I was sure she is getting paid to answer my questions. She then said she was not and that it is a volunteer job. Does anyone know if it that is true? I know I need to just "let it go" but I am curious. :)

  1. Yes, they get paid - just not very much.  Her pay is irrelevant.  Call back and ask to speak to a supervisor - keep asking until you get one.  If this person looked you up on their system, they'll be able to tell who it was.  Everyone has their bad days, but they don't need to take them out on the public.

Their website is below.  I don't know which branch you spoke to, but you can get that agency's address off the website, if you choose to go that route.  Letters can get more attention that a phone call will.  In any case, make a complaint.  If you have to, write a snail mail complaint.  Address it to the manager of that agency's attention.

Shame on her.  We may not get paid much, be we can get another job if we don't like it.  I have no sympathy for unprofessional people.  My apologies - people like this make all State workers look like we don't care and are unprofessional.  It's not the case - at all.
