  1. it depends where you are calling and how oftern you do. if it is national then there are plans that are unlimited that are much better in the long run. if it is international then depending on the country calling cards may be a good way to go. usually though i recommend sticking to the phone company, you usually pay a low monthly fee to have an intl discounted plan and if you do calls are very cheap depending on the country, its a more reliable way to make the calls because what i personally encountered is that some of the calling cards will give you an access number to dial that is not local, so you are ending up paying an out of area call and what you paid for the card so its worthless. that way if you have problems with billing or bad connection you can talk to the phone comp.

  2. it depends on the rate you have with your provider if you have an unlimited calling plan or really low rate its better to call directly if not its better to use the calling card . Call your phone provider

  3. Calling cards are almost always cheaper than calling direct.

Some VoIP services like CallCentric and InPhonex allow you to access their VoIP gateways using local calling card access numbers.  Now, your calls are at VoIP rates, but using a regular telephone, or cell.

  4. Personally, I like calling cards, so I dont have to worry about the phone bill at the end of the month. You just gotta watch the fee's on some of those cards, you are better off sticking with a major retailor, like AT&T or Verizon. Dialing all the numbers kinda stuck, but if it saves you cash, what the heck.
