  1. you need to go to driving school and learn how to park in the right places

  2. It will be on your credit card because the rental car company will pay it and they will charge you.  (been there done that)

On the other matter if you had driven your own car I believe that Ontario, New York and Michigan have reciprical agreements and you could get dinged there.   But being you drove a rental nope but it will be on your credit card.

  3. no, only if you come back to Canada, parking tickets aren't a serious international matter

oh wait I missed the bit about you renting it in Michigan, the person above me is probably right

  4. I guess you did not read your car rental contract ??

The car rental company will get the ticket and as per the agreement you signed it will be charged to your credit card . Next time if you know you can't park somewhere don't .Being AMerican does not give you the right to park anywhere you want then a Canadian has

  5. Yes they do!! Of course you need to call and get the correct amount if paying in us funds, if you do not pay the rental car company will recieve a letter of non payment and you could get in trouble...

  6. I believe that (1) the rental agency can come after you or can charge your credit card and (2) if you do not pay, then you might run into problems next time you go to Canada.

The best thing you can do is bite the bullet, and pay your fines. Next time you'll think about where you choose to park your car.

  7. In your case probably. Normally a parking ticket would not be worth enforcing. Your problem is that it was a rental car so the ticket will be sent to the rental car agency. The rental car agency has no self-interest either way so will probably do the right thing and pay the ticket. If they pay the ticket  then they will charge your credit card as you signed a contract that allows them to do that.

  8. They will go after the car rental company and they will come after you .There is no way of getting around to it . Be honest and pay the fine . You did get the ticket after all didn't you ? Have a nice day .

  9. Since you said it was a rental car, the police will have issued the parking ticket to the license plate of the vehicle.

If it is not paid, what they will do is Ontario will likely communicate with Michigan DMV and ask them for the ownership details on the vehicle so they can issue a ticket with interest and possibly a summons to court.

Since the "owner" of the car is the rental agency, they will look in their records for who had rented the vehicle on that day, and see your name and address. Even if they do not have your credit card details anymore to charge you automatically, The agency will certainly issue you an invoice for the ticket, and if that invoice is not paid, you could find yourself in court with the rental agency for the unpaid costs.

My advice would be just pay the ticket. You really don't want the aggravation of going to court with Hertz, or dealing with the blemish on your credit rating for an unpaid invoice.

It is quite a hefty fine for being illegally parked, as most tickets for parking are $50-$150, depending on if they towed your car too. Did you park in a hospital emergency zone or a handicapped parking spot?!
