Are Carnival Cruise ships any good?

If so which Carnival Cruise ships are best. My husband likes to party a bit, but I don't. We just want something where we can do things all day. Whether its shows, dinner, or whatever. I want one geared towards the younger crowd. Also what type of activities are done on and off board? Thanks in advance.

  1. most of your mass market cruise lines offer similar experiences.  There are some difference between the lines but for the most part food, entertainment, service etc is similar.  As mentioned, CCL has more of the pool games, deck parties etc than some of the other lines but the all have stuff to do during the day and shows every night. As far as partying etc.  I don't think that any particular line has a more party atmospher than any of the others. HAL though is probably the most sedate as the demographics are older.  Usually the time of the cruise and length of the cruise dictates how rowdy the cruise will be.

  3. Sure, they're "good".  They are, however, very over-the-top in decor - glitzy Las Vegas.  They have all kinds of activities - silly pool games, trivia, karaoke, art auctions, bingo, casino, spa, gym, wine tastings, shows, piano bars, etc, etc.  And they do tend to have a "younger" adult crowd - lots of families, too.

You might want to check your library or bookstore for a book about cruising, to get a good overview of what's involved.  You could also go to one of the cruise boards, like CruiseCritic.com, to get lots of info from experienced cruisers.  At the top of the page, click on "Boards" to find threads on all kinds of subjects; click on "Reviews" and you'll find reviews of all the ships from both pros and "Member Reviews".  They can give you a good idea of what the experience is like on the different ships.

Added later:  Don't know what Stringfellow Hawke's problem was with Carnival and tipping.  All cruise lines add tips of about $10/day/person to your cruise account.  It's a small price to pay for the great service you get from everyone on the cruise staff.

  4. Ive been on RCL and Carnival. Carnival is great becasue the ship doesnt shut down at 10p......I have traveled with and without kids and have had an awesome time no matter ( I tend to drink and party more with friends) I have been on the Facination, Elation, Pride, Legend and Triumph I have upcoming cruises on Victory and Imagination. Of all the ships I like the Pride the best . Yes Carnival is glitzy but its a ship, when i want a boring hotel format ill go to a boring hotel

  5. i was just on a carnival cruise ship and they did have that much for kids. i would go on a princess cruise if i was you because i think they are funnier.

  6. talk about the PERFECT FAMILY FUN CRUISES!! LOVE CARNIVAL!!

  7. Carnival is fun for younger folks. I'm 24 and I had SOOOO much fun on Carnival last summer.

  8. NO!!!! avoid Carnival cruise lines at all costs. they will rip you off when it comes to tipping. Try Royal Caribbean they are much better.
