Are Cedars a type of Cypress?

Is there a difference between Cedar and Cypress? Are they in the same family? I need cypress for an herbal remedy my grandma used to make, but I can't tell the difference between Cedar and Cypress, they look all the same! OMG! Would it be ok If I substitued Cypress with Cedar? Please Help.

  1. They are both evergreens but are not the same tree.  


  2. Cypress and Red Cedar trees are two different species.

    Cypress is tall, conical shaped with small flowers succeeded by round cones or nuts. Twigs and needles are used for skin-tightening  effect and blood circulation.
