I have heard that with out Starting pitching , then Closer doesnt get the chace to close, but it your Starter does good and you dont have a legit closer then will struggle to get that win .

Not anybody can close and can handle the pressure of being a closer

Example : Yesterday the Phillies and Mets , Wagner was out and was not going to get used, The Mets Bullpen just Sucked simple as that They had like 4 or 5 Relief pitchers come out to get 3 outs , and could not hold on to the 3 run lead.

Another Example 2 years ago the Yankees were playing the Tigers and Mo was not Avaliable for a reason cant recall, and Proctor was put up to save the game , simple he blew the lead and the Yankees Lost.

  1. Today's closers get WAY too much credit. Francisco Rodriguez couldnt hold a candle to Goose Gossage or Rollie Fingers. There is no way he could pitch 3 innings for each of his saves. Closers since the start of the 1990's are ALL overrated.

  2. Closers get too much credit but at the same time they are very valuable to the team.

  3. They are here in Milwaukee.

I would give ANYTHING to get a big-time closer.  Eric Gagne didn't exactly work out.

  4. I appreciate the closers role, but back in Goose Gossages day they had to pitch 2 or 3 innings nuch of the time to get the save. Goose had about 340 saves and about half of them were saves of 5 or more outs.

  5. I think closers get plenty of appreciation.

For example, four of them made the All-Star game for the American League this year.

If anyone on the pitching staff is under-appreciated, it would be the set-up guys or the middle relievers. Starters and closers get their due.

  6. While not everyone can handle the pressure situations, I think that closers get too much credit sometimes. A closer nowadys can come in to pitch the last inning with a three-run lead and get the save -- like he did something great to win the game for his team.

Guess what???? You're not SUPPOSED to blow a three-run lead in one inning.

  7. Yeah I guess closers can sometimes be under appreciated...but I deffinatly realize how important closers are and appreciate them.
