Question:

Are Dawai baitcast reels compatable to Shimano spincast rods?

I have a 6'-6" Shimano medium/heavy rod I used with my spincast for about a month and I just recently pickup a Daiwa megaforce with the twitching bar and the eyelets on my rod face the sky when I hold the rig horizontal the eyelets and spool face up. So if I were to use the rig this way I would be bending my rod backward Is this Dawai baitcast reel still compatable to Shimano spincast rod?

  1. The guides are supposed to face upwards on a casting rod. The rod will bend the way it's supposed to. I have the same Daiwa Megaforce reel and yes, it is compatible with that rod. The spool is shown on the top side of low profile baitcast reels. That's just how they're made. Check to make sure that there is good balance with the rod and reel. Baitcast reels are in no way as easy to use as a spincast reel, so if you experience problems, it's not because of the rod/reel matchup. Backlashing is the most common problem you will probably face, and it's a common problem. Your rod is fine. Casting rods work with spincast and baitcast reels. Spinning rods are the ones with the guides that face down, and they are made for spinning reels. Here's a normal baitcast setup, just enlarge the picture:  http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores...
