They seem more rude and defensive than ever.

Why be so hard on someone you think has no chance whatsoever.?

I think some are a little worried.

Interesting

Im hard on Obama, cause i truly am worried he will win the election.

But what is your reason for being so hard on her?

Yep, i think someones a little worried......

  1. Do you believe they're using the word hype about her.  Hahahahahaha! After all the hype about empty suit Obama, they crack me up.

  2. Assuming you want a real, honest answer, I think the pick surprised them.

The theatre of politics is heavily dependent upon preparation. This is true for both parties. Each party had a list of the five or seven prospective VP picks for the opposing candidate. Each party prepared and printed, in advance, Talking Points for each prospective running mate on the list - so that as soon as the running mate is announced, they can hit back with a response.

Palin wasn't on the Democrats' list. McCain had only ever met the woman once before, so the rumor trail on her was pretty cold. There had been some media speculation about her months ago, but the media eventually dismissed it. Somehow, the McCain camp managed to keep this choice a secret right up until the announcement. (There were some blogs out there that had tracked a jet flying to Alaska with a return flight plan to Ohio, but it never made the mainstream media or Democratic circles.)

So, Democratic strategists and pols were very much surprised. They had no Talking Points finalized for her -at best they had a rough draft with stuff that would have been cut out in editing- but still had to respond to the choice immediately.

So they started scrambling. That's why you saw so much disorganized, vaguely sexist, potentially unwise criticism coming so vehemently from so many different directions the past couple days: there was no coordinated response prepared for this choice. But you can already see this changing as the Dem strategists get their legs back under them.

Each party has to say that their opponent made a "bad choice" but I assure you Democrats realized Palin's potential appeal all too well. She's a woman, an outsider, she's very good-looking for a politician, and she has a lot of television experience so she will not be a stiff on camera. The Dems also realize that undecided women voters are going to listen to what she has to say at first, and judge her mostly on the "feel" they get about her. In response, they will hammer away at Palin's conservative stances on so-called "women's issues" like abortion.

The Democrats were clearly worried the past couple days, but it was less because of Palin herself than because they were caught off guard. They're still a bit worried about her, because she's a woman, but politician has a weakness and they will find it and hammer on it.

(This weakness probably isn't her inexperience - that's a criticism that came out because the Dems were caught off guard. Palin is indeed less inexperienced than Obama, but that debate is a loser for Democrats because will remind undecided voters of Obama's own inexperience relative to McCain. Obama's strategists believe that his inexperience compared to McCain is why the race is so close, and that's the sole reason Biden was chosen as running mate.Having just beefed up their own ticket, Obama's people do *not* want to descend into a debate about whether their presidential candidate is more or less experienced than the GOP *vice*-presidential candidate. )

Assuming Palin proves she is up to campaigning, it will be an interesting race.

(BTW, I wouldn't take juyi's criticisms too seriously. Until ten minutes ago he thought the GOP convention was in New Orleans.)

  3. Yes, I can see the possible appeal to her [very attractive, young, women].  What is so unattractive is her experience [or lack thereof and her policies].

Sarah Palin would serve as the head of our country and military if John McCain was elected and died in office.

That statement should send shivers down Americans, both Democrat and Republican.

  4. as far as leadership capabilities, obama wins hands down. As far as beauty goes, it's sarah all the way. As far as an honest election, i do not trust voting machines--manufactured by the right wing CEO of diebold--to give us an honest accounting of how we voted. As in 04, the exit polls showed a big kerry win, but the votes said otherwise--votes that could not be verified. The corrupt republican party is very skillfully adept at stealing elections and with all of bush's secret policies, i am absolutely scared-- and it has zero to do with that housewife who would be one viagra-induced heart attack away from the presidency.

  5. shes a creationist who thinks Noah's ark should be taught in schools, she is against abortion EVEN in the case of rape or incest, she despises g*y marriage, shes pro-war and is a lifelong member of the nra, oh ya shes real appealing.

  6. we are more "rude and defensive than ever" because we're tired of what the Republicans have done for the past 8 years ..

  7. This democrat isn't worried, in fact I'm glad she'll be around until November.  She's not too hard on the eyes!

  8. Why is it any different for anyone to question ANY candidate for President or Vice-President.  Sounds like sour grapes from a REpublican that know McCain screwed up in his choice!  It is amazing that someone with so little experience can be embroiled in so much controversy already!

Not only has she lied about that but she is in the middle of a huge scandal which involves an abuse of power:

Then there is the pregnancy question. If you look at the photos it is pretty obvious who was actually pregnant!

An awful lot of scandal for someone with literally no experience!

  9. They know that the only chance they had was a split Republican party. The religious right was on the verge of walking out on McCain, now that will not happen. Might even pick up a few Hillary voters.

  10. As a Democrat, I knew that if McCain got elected, at least he wouldn't have been much worse than George Bush.  But this lady is a total right wing nut job neo-con and would set us back 50 years.  It's almost like McCain wants to lose.

  11. They are scared and angry that we took away their chance of Hillary being the first Female President.

  12. They seem more rude and defensive than ever. because they looking for some one like mitt romney to complete with .But republican  send them a GIRL .So like republican look down on them(Democrats)

  13. Yep, you got it right

  14. I think she's a piece of fluff and unprepared, but I don't underestimate her appeal. She's been called MILF, GILF and someday VILF and I do think the p**n addict vote who would fantasize about her killing, cleaning and cooking their dinner is not insignificant.

On the other hand, even gun nuts will realize that her s*x appeal doesn't change the fact that many of them have lost their jobs, insurance and homes and the so far $572 billion war has taken their sons and daughters from them, or had sons or daughters return to them very messed up without the military taking any responsibility for them.

Yes, she has appeal, but it's our duty as progressives to make sure Americans know what is at stake and a pretty face isn't going to reduce gas prices or stop the housing crisis.

ETA: Life is Good, you mean Misanthropist, but you made a great statement.  Wait, or did you mean misogynist? Because she's anti choice and anti birth control -- more so than even grandpa Johnny Mac?

    Huh.

  15. It's more that I'm hard on McCain for choosing her as a VP. Why, if he spent so long lambasting Obama for lack of experience, would he choose someone with less experience than Obama?

If he thinks women will automatically vote for her because she's a woman, than that's insulting and untrue.

I would never support Palin because she's pro-war, anti-environment, does not support g*y rights nor women's rights. She's scary.

  16. It's funny to me that people can be afraid of Obama being elected. Most republicans don't approve of Bush, yet are still willing to vote for Mccain  (Bush's approval rating is what about 20%) even though he voted with Bush 90% of the time. This tell me you are either scared of a black president or your not very bright. Mccain is a bigger moron than Bush. He not only is a vet against vets, he called we the American people lazy (even though we work more than any other industrilized nation in the world) and said were winers. Don't take my word though use your brain and look it up.

  17. No. She's corrupt, she's a misogynist, she's involved in a scandal, she's anti-science.

    NOTHING appealing whatsoever.

  18. Wow, you can't even spell the VP candidate's name correctly.  Let's see, she has only been governor of the least populated state in the nation for 1 1/2 years.  She has no military or foreign policy experience, and yet she could be a heartbeat away from the Presidency.  That is truly terrifying.

  19. Yes.  She is an excellent choice even if she is an anti-choice, creationist, born-again Christian.

  20. it's odd isn't it...who wouldn't want a politician who vows to end corruption and waste in government? yeah, that really sucks...who wouldn't want a politicians who hasn't made a career out of working the political system and whose only intention was to make the government do what it is supposed to do and nothing more? I for one am all for Sarah Palin, i think she epitomizes America..

  21. This is hardball not softball.

There are no breaks because she is a female.

Isn't it the nature of the Repugs?

  22. Theyre scared. They know she was a great VP pick.
