I've heard from people that these 2 languages are quite similar and by similar I mean in grammar or vocab etc... I know they're 2 different languages, but just wondering, are they?

Reason I ask is out of curiousity and 2nd I'm planning on taking some courses for learning Deutsh and wondering if this will make it any easier if I get to learn Dutch as there is a chance I might go to the Netherlands.

  1. yea they are similar just like english but still u would have to learn them seperately.

  2. They're no closer to each other than either one is to English.

  3. There are similarities. However English and Dutch are much closer.Dutch grammar is much easier than German grammar. If you know some German it would help a lot to learn Dutch.

  4. Both Germanic languages, the grammar of both languages are similar to each other and I can recognize a lot of Dutch things in German.

  5. I think they are quite similar, not necessarily orally, but in writing. I have studied German at school and now I'm trying to learn Dutch by myself and I find it easier to understand the meaning of some words and some things in grammar. But I also find that Dutch is closer to English than German is.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying they're the same, they're still two distinct languages.

  6. a little... some words are similar...
