  1. I think that eastern muslims are lucky, because they live in Muslim society....

    I'm an Egyptian Muslim, and I have about 6 mosques in my neighborhood.

    but  I have a Muslim  American friend who says that the closest mosque to him takes 30 min to reach ( using a car)

    that's it

    dear Mr. Bell,

    we have to distinguish between "Islam" and "Muslim"; Islam is Islam

    wether it is on earth or moon :)... it has been and will be saved forever :) same thing to Qur'an ( Muslims' holy book ) ; so if your Q was wether Eastern and Western Islam are alike ... then yes they are identical.

    Do Eastern and Western Muslims differs ? well you can't answer such general Q . because again Islam states somethings that we have to do and obey( praying and fasting for example) the more you obey the rules the better Muslim you are .... if two different persons , living in to different cities with different backgrounds,

    but they are doing the same things ( I mean religion-wise ) then yes they are the same ... if not then they differ ... In the holly Qur'an God tells us " la fark bain arabin wala a'jamin ella bl takwa "

    which means : there is no difference between Arabs or non-Arabs.. except in "takwa" which is how a person follows God

    If you want to know more about Islam I advice you to visit an official Muslim places and ask about it there ... and not googling it cuz there are many non-Muslim websites that the claim they are Muslims inorder to spread bad things about Islam all over the net to show that islam is the religion of hate, without knowing that the word "Islam" is a derivative of Peace in arabic :)

    i am a western muslim, a british convert.  Am i different yeah i love mash potato in the mornings before I start to fast.  Are we the same I pray we all are in the fact we worship our creator as the one and only, but i dont think our differences are just about east and west.  Culture, customer, language, upbringing, life experience and personality make all of us different.  same yet different.

    That's not the the right question because there is no difference between a "western" or "eastern" muslim either can be a modern liberal person or extremists.

    You have eastern Muslims like Pakistanis and Saudis who are terrorists also eastern Muslims like Lebanese, Syrians, Turkish who are modern so it doesn't necessarily matter whether you are eastern or western what matters is how you practice the religion.

    I also had a Egyptian boyfriend, unfortunately we had to break up.

  12. u know, the one thing that swayed malcom X when he went for hajj was seeing how different islam was from the way that he grew up in racist america, where the KKK would burn a cross in his yard and torment his family. in mecca he saw black , white, arab, chinese, all sitting together as brothers. that isnt to say there are no racist muslims, there are, but in general we should never discriminate between eastern or western muslims, we're all one big family :-D
