Modern day Egyptians, speak Arabic, and are considered Arabic by some, however they are genetically a mixture of Arabs, coptic (ancient) Egyptians, Greeks, macedonians, Romans, and other peoples of the Mediterranean.

Most people when they think of Africans think of black africans.  But there are a few other groups that have different pigmentation & history.  Pygmies for example are africans, but aren't as dark as we think most africans are. There are also tribes/groups of 'bushmen' that are african, but likewise not quite the same features as we think of most africans.

Technically, they live in Africa, and are ergo also African. But Algerians, Moroccans, Boars & other white settlers of South Africa are also African.

So Charleze Theron (however its spelled), born in Africa, now an american is an African-american. Its all a matter of perspective.

Modern Egyptians?

Egyptians consider themselves Egyptians.  America considers them whites. Most people consider them mixed race, brown or Egyptian just like they do themselves.

I consider them black Africans or mixed race Africans case being, they presently, have mixed DNA, and mixed language with both AfricanArab, culturally they are predominately Arab, and that is why they are referred to as Arabs sometimes, but their phenotype and DNA points to a mixed backgrounds. Same with Somalia, but we of course know what the base population was before the admixture so it makes sense to assume the same about the Egyptians.  

The reason I personally call them black Africans is because the largest amount of their DNA is found only in black Africans south of Egypt, because they range from dark like the Bejas and Nubians to light almost olive, because Northern Nubians look much like Southern Egyptians and because they speak an Afro Asiatic language most related to closely related to Beja, Berber and Semetic two of thse groups being largely black Africans as well; and well, because,  they're in Africa  not Arabia.  :)

I saw someone say "technically they live in Africa" what is so technical about Egypt's location?

SomeEgyptians are ARABS, some are not...Especially the Copts who consider themselves directly descended from the Ancient Egyptians...before the Arab conquest...and the Nubians who were part of an African and Christian nation long before the Arab conquest.  The official designation of the Country is "The Arab Republic of Egypt"......but most Egyptians consider themselves EGYPTIANS FIRST.

The most unifying factor is ISLAM , with approximatly 89% of the people being Muslim...10% Coptic Christian, and 1% mixed Catholic and Protestant.

The country is considered (geographically) AFRICAN since it is located in the North East corner of the African continent.  The capital, Cairo, is the largest city in Africa!

OmG, i can't believe these people are saying Arabians...no they were always Africans and plus its on the continent of Africa. They are only Arabians NoW..but look at the art history.

Today the Definition for an Arab extends to arabic speaking countries as well, so alot of times you have a lot of black arabs, such as in the country of sudan.

But the true ethnicity of most Egyptians is Coptic, They descend from teh ancient coptic egyptians, until the arabs came and intermixed with the native copts who were in Egypt , and they became arabized in the their genetics, language and culture.

But Egyptians, although on continental africa, are not considered african, because they do not fall under the two main african groups. Blacks or Berbers. They are coptic arabs, tehrefore are lumped in the middle east.
