Yes they are ok.  If you are nit combing a girls hair however, be careful when combing around her ears.  My daughter got a couple of shocks before i worked that one out!  The best treatment i found was combing through when in the bath with loads of conditioner.  p.s it does get less as children get older, big relief!....    nasty little critters!

I have never personally used it but heard that it does work by sending some sort of impulse.
