WASHINGTON - European terrorists are trying to enter the United States with European Union passports, and there is no guarantee officials will catch them every time, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Thursday.

  1. No way.

  2. Hehe, that's bloody ridiculous. On the other hand I would probably support the US closing its borders, with dangerous specimens like McCain running around. It'd be better for everyone. :)

  3. I live in Europe part-time--and this is the most ridicoulous thing I've heard in a long time.

  4. yes...they have always hated us...at least since WW1 anyway

  5. Given that America doesn't know the whereabouts of some 20 million illegal immigrants from Mexico, I hardly think those coming in through Europe with a genuine passport are the real problem.

Passports are now increasingly biometric, you have your background and records checked by the US Authorities, finger prints are taken on arrival, you and your luggage are subject to thorough searches and you now even have to give your details two days before even flying to the US.

Indeed many Europeans are now put off from even visiting America because of the virtual interrogation and the hassle involved even before they set foot in the US.

If someone wanted to get in to America or smuggle materials, they would no doubt use the vast borders like the Mexicans or the coastline and would be very unlikely to be detected compared with coming through a US Airport.

It sounds like the Head of Homeland Security is just looking for ways to justify demanding more money for his ever increasing departmental budget.
