So I constantly have this debate with my "friend" who thinks he knows more about Asians and Pacific Islanders because he's part Japanese. He is a Caucasian and what drives me mad is that he doesn't even consider that Filipinos are Asians.Obviously he hasnt looked at the globe very carefully. He claims that we're Pacific Islanders because we are in the Pacific,BUT we're more closer to the Asian mainland than the Pacific Ocean. What I also hate about him is that he thinks he knows more about the Philippines than I do.Heck,my parents and ancestors have lived there more than he'll ever go!His dad was in the navy and was stationed in the Philippines for 10 years. In my opinion,FILIPINOS ARE ASIANS!I'd like to hear other people's opinions and please state why.

  1. asian..of course

  2. Filipinos are Asians. Your 'friend' must be a dumb a** redneck!

Phillipines compete in the South-East Asian (SEA) Games & Asian Games.

Which part of the Phillipines is not Asian?

  3. the philippines wouldnt be a member of the ASEAN if it isnt asian (specifically southeast asian), nor it wouldnt participate in the Asian Games if it isnt, again, asian.

  4. Filipinos are Asians, period.  And to xOxOx, those statements probably are from way back 1900s.  I don't know where you get it from.  But presently, Philippines is a part of the Southeast Asian countries together with Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei etc.

  5. Manila was the capital of Spanish East Indies which comprises Guam, The Marianas and the Philippines. Guam and Marianas are in the Pacific, how come the Philippines become part of Asia?

Since Philippines is kinda western in culture - not necessarily Asian, I would consider the people of the Philippines as Pacific Islander.
