Lets get this straight Filipinos to date are both South East Asian and Pacific Islanders. We are South East Pacific Asian Islanders

Original Filipinos by are indeed part of the race that populated the Pacific Islands. This race group are know as the Austronesians

Prehistory and History

The first Austronesian speakers are believed to have originated on the island of Taiwan following the migration of a group, or groups, of Pre-Austronesian speaking peoples from continental Asia approximately 10,000-6000 B.C. Due to a lengthy split from the Pre-Austronesian populations, the Proto-Austronesian language and cultures emerged on Taiwan (Blust,1988).

Beginning around 5000-2500 B.C., the large scale Austronesian expansion began.

These first settlers landed in northern Luzon in the Philippines. and Expaned to the Pacific Islands

  1. Filipinos are a mixture in different ratios depending on tribal island groups.

The island group of the Philippines was settled and then colonized in four or five waves. First were the original settlers which came from a racial group similar to the indigenous groups of other South Pacific islanders, something like New Guenna.

The second wave was a Chinese stock of traders and conquerors, which were, if I remember correctly, quickly displaced by Spanish colonial expansion just a few decades later.

Then after the Spanish American war, the US took over colonial control of the Philippines.

In the end what Filipinos are as far as their racial make-up would depend on how different islands inter-mixed with the different racial groups.

There is still to this day quite a stigma attached to the heredity of a islander. Whether you are mostly Spanish, or have obvious Chinese roots, or even full bloodied Ilicono.

  2. I'd say both because i've seen many that look very asian, malaysians. A few i've seen look like latins and some pacific islander. I guess some people are right though that they believe.

I'd say we need a new name for our people. South East Mixed Asians lol due to our ancestory.

Im one of those filipinos that may look like a native american, african, mexican, or short samoan or part chinese. People's assumptions   usually we all come from asia then from africa

We are all brothers and sisters, not literally but in our blood, we maybe come from what we call one and only  GOD but i think there is a deeper meaning in this life b4 and afta. Heard we all came from Africa, our segregation and evolution changes us, adapting to new different environments

  3. I am not Filipino but I found this.

  4. Pacific Islanders

  5. That's tough question.  My sister in-law is Filipino.  I would say Asian.  I think more of Samoans being Pacific Islander's.

And I don't know much about my culture.

  6. I believe that our ancestors may have come from mainland Asia who were spread out due to many aspects like economics and wars (between the Thais and Burmese or Khmers) or the spread of Asian empires (like Sri Vijaya empire).  There were evidence of prehistoric Java man in Indonesia and the Tabon man which was 22,000 yrs old, so we may also have originated from here.

I also believe that the belief systems of our ancestors (even with the existing indigenous peoples) can be traced back to India or the Indus valleys.

But with the colonization and the intemixing of different races (Chinese, Spanish, Japanese, Americans, etc.) we manifest both east and west and are quiet unique as Filipinos (but I prefer to see myself as Maharlikan).
