  1. may iknow where are you come from and why you asking this kind of question? filipinos originally are belong to the brown race. but generation has changed  people migrated and immigrants coming in the philippines so thier races are mixed now. If you want to see the brown race go to the mountainous area you will see   lots of them up to now.

  2. They are in the human race. And Filipinos are Filipinos...

  3. it would depend on the what each person considers himself/herself. there are latinos who consider their race caucasians. as a latino this makes no sense to me but there is a growing population of people who take this route. i'll post a link to this article if i can find it quick enough.

  4. multiple race. there are Tagalog, Visayan and many more with different languages and dialects

  5. Filipino is a nationality/ethnicity -- that is, it refers to people from that country, or who's recent ancestor's are from the Phillipines.

The whole notion of race is problematic, and here's one example of why. To put Filipinos in one and only one race is arbitrary, and tells you nothing.

As others have pointed out, the inhabitants of the islands were oceanic, but as others have mentioned, the islands are considered to be part of Asia (which is considered a race, by many).

Then Europeans and East Asians came their, and mixed.

So, are they their own race (which means there are a lot more races in the world than most people acknowledge), or East Asian, or Oceanic, or mixed, or....?

Any one you pick, it's misleading.

Thus, this is one of the cases where the very concept of race breaks down completely.

  6. Filipinos are the citizens of the Philippines, located in Southeast Asia. The term (feminine: Filipina) may also refer to people of Philippine descent, regardless of citizenship (i.e. Chinese Filipinos, Japanese Filipino, Filipino Americans, British Filipinos, Canadians of Filipino descent, etc.).

Throughout the colonial era, the term "Filipino" originally referred to Spaniards born in the Philippines, also known as insulares, criollos or español filipino. This distinguished them from Spaniards born in Europe who were known as peninsulares. By the mid to late nineteenth century, however, the term "Filipino" had begun to refer to the indigenous population of the Philippines. According to historian Ambeth Ocampo, José Rizal was the first to call the native inhabitants "Filipinos". Today, Filipino is also used to signify the nationality and citizenship of one who is from the Philippines. This means that not only Austronesian Malay population are included but also other ethnic groups such as the Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, and American.

Colloquially, Filipinos may refer to themselves as Pinoy (feminine: Pinay), which is formed by taking the last four letters of Pilipino and adding the diminutive suffix -y. The word was coined by expatriate Filipino Americans during the 1920s and was later adopted by Filipinos in the Philippines.

In various Philippine languages, Filipino is translated to Pilipino. The use of /p/ is used since many lack /f/ as a phoneme.

  7. the human race

  8. They're in the "human race" like you and I.

  9. No, Filipinos are NOT Cacuasian.

    Nor Spanish (A big misconception)

Some argue whether or not they're Pacific Islander or Asian, but I just like to say I'm Filipino.

Or, as everyone's been saying, the human race.

Most of the people I know call Filipinos Pacific Islander because

    1) They're whitewashed

    2) They don't like being called Asians

    3) Think there is no such thing as "tanned" asians.

but, I beg to differ. I think it's a little bit of both ^___^

You probably got a little confused because most Filipinos don't really look like the typical Asian, they have more tanned skin, flatter noses (in some areas), bigger eyes, and a more built figure.

When the Phillipines was barely inhabited, it existed of Island people called Negritos and various other tribes that come from MALAY/INDO backgrounds... which is probably why we have the color and less defined noses.

Then come the Chinese, who the Phillipines have being doing trade with (and having kids with) for hundred of years. Which is probably why we all have slight Asian features. We are also very independent, and hard-working and for the girls, delicate. Probably why a lot of girls in Pinas want lighter skin. Oh, and we get a little bit of language from them.

And then the Spanish come. Which most people think come FIRST because they give the most influence when it comes to food, language, and surnames. But we aren't really Spanish, unless you have a Spanish parent/ancestors.

I think that it's only like 3-8% of people that are actually Spanish.

And for Chinese it's like 10-15%

    Good luck! <3

  10. they are decendants of Islanders, Asian and Spanish.  I think they prove the frutility of classifying people by race.

  11. i dont know I was told im part filipino and look slightly asian.Austronesian etc are all european terms im sure the native population of the phillipines had their own indentity, the majority of filipinos ive seen looked slightly indonesian mixed with chinese and some spanish. The women tend to look very attractive.

  12. WOW! There are SOOOO  many filipinos trying to be Chinese, Korean, Japanese, just check peoples statements.  "Filipino, but look Chinese, Korean, etc"  What A f*kin disgrace.  Me, I am FILIPINO American and I look FILIPINO AMERICAN, SO THEREFORE I AM.  What I am not are this Filipinos that are trying to hard to be something else.  HEY, to all you wannabee Chinese, Koreans, etc. MOVE THERE so you can rightfully CLAIM IT!

  13. Filipino is our race. We, Filipinos, are descendants of the Austronesians. Austronesian decent ranges from Madagascar up to the Easter Islands in the Pacific. We certainly are not caucasians.

  14. Um... Asians? Asian is a race.

  15. If you ask what race we Filipinos are, we are multi-raced now. Filipinos are Asians in a sense that they live in the country we called Philippines which is located in the continental Asia.

The history of the Filipino people tells us that they have been under the Spanish rule for 300 years. In the 16th century, Ferdinand Magellan discovered the Archipelago of San Lazaro, which is now known as the Philippines. There, he discovered its natives that are of Malay race (brown-skinned colored people) and established its colonial rule. The Spanish people came and there were mixed breeding resulting to what they call "meztizos or meztizas", Filipinos who look caucasians in features. At the same time, the Filipino natives also engage business with other asians, like the Chinese people, and some of these Chinese have lived and migrated in the Philippine Island, the Indies who came from India. The Americans also colonized the Philippines, which led to mixed race of caucasians and blacks (the American black people) But majority of the Filipinos are of Malay race.

I am a Filipino but I look like Chinese, Korean or Japanese.

  16. Fillipinos, like every other people are in the human race, descended from the people who survived the great flood.

  17. The human race.

If you want to break it down further, they'd be Asian, since they're in the continent of Asia.

  18. Austronesian except those that came later or the Negritos.  I wouldn't exactly call either a race.   Filipinos or Asian are not races anymore than African is a race.  Are Persians Asians to make the point.

  19. Hey, I'm a Filipino...

we are Asians... since geographically speaking, we are in Asia...

    Filipino itself is a race.

but we do consider ourselves a mixture of other races since the country was very much open to other races in the past centuries... that's why our physical characteristics differ a lot...

anyway, as I've said, Filipino is a race itself.

and I'm proud to be a Filipino.

  20. Filipinos are from the Philippines, considered Asian race.

  21. asian
