Question:

Are Fire Extinguishers Toxic To Humans and/or Animals?

Early this morning, my friend was opening up the store she works at.

There was a rather large bird that got in from the night before. (thanks to the electrician)

I came over to try to get the bird to fly out a door, but he was stubborn and hiding behind store fixtures and coolers that I couldn't get to.

After about an hour of dealing with this bird, I sprayed an extinguisher not at him, but behind the fixture he was under.

I got him "smoked out" and finally free out a door.

Can the extinguisher be toxic to him or will he most likely be ok?

  1. depending on the type of extinguisher, CO2 would be ok, but if it has chemicals for electric then that might be a problem.

  2. He will most likely be OK just a little shaken up. There is nothing toxic enough to kill him.

  3. Yes. Fire extinguishers have toxic chemicals that help put out fires.

You should have used a broom or a large paper bag and rattle the bag making loud noises. Birds hate loud noise. Your friend should have held the door or doors open and the bird would have flown out without the mess you made.

Now as payment. Go clean up the mess.

  4. yes, surely fire extinguishers are toxic to humans and/or animals.

  5. i don't think they are toxic. just chill dude.
