  1. The term "air hostess" is a bit outdated and only really heard in the U.K. It's also inaccurate, since it implies that they only serve drinks. It's true

    You can also still hear "Stewardess" once in awhile. This is a shipping term and although leagues better than "air hostess", doesn't really cover the job description very well. Stewards usually take care of the rooms and do more cleaning on ships, which Flight Attendants don't usually do.

    The other advantage to "Flight Attendant" is that you can avoid the whole s*x issue. If you call them "air hostesses", are the guys what? "Air Hosts"??
