In my English class we read an editorial about how bad genetically modified (GM) foods are. Well, I have to write an editorial about how GM foods are GOOD. I don’t agree that they’re good so…any ideas? I was um...busy this weekend.

  1. There had been violent reactions to the use of GM food. These reactionist i.e. the Greenpeas must have some proofs already that they travel around the world to protest its use for food. Why not find access to their information?

  2. Typically GM foods are larger, which means feeding more people without the same amount of farmland. It could also be that plants could be engineered to have more of the good vitamins/nutrients and less of the bad stuff. Plants can be made that are resistant to disease or pests, improving crop yield.

We've been genetically modifying our food for thousands of years through artificial selection. It's a much longer process than what we call GM food today, but the results have been pretty drastic (many of the fruits/veggies we eat today are unpalatable in their wild forms). It's probably wise to be wary of foods with weird hormones, and other completely unnatural stuff in it, but I wouldn't completely dismiss the benefits of all GM foods without knowing exactly what the purpose was, and what the modifications were.
