Are GPS systems accurate?

I downloaded a map to go to a store in Seattle and the directions took me through residential areas where I could have gone a more direct route on the main roads. Do GPS units take you the most direct way or do they sometimes make you go through extra steps to get to your destination?

  1. They work via algorithms and sometimes they calculate routes that are still correct, just not the correct you would have hopped for

  2. sometimes they give you easier and harder routes.

i think it just depends where you are at that moment.

  3. Most GPS systems have different settings for most direct, fastest and sometimes most economical.  The settings are found on the first screen.  In there you can go through the menu and make desired changes.  Chaeck the owners manual to find how tomake desired changes.
