  1. you can go to repticzone.com it has caresheets for many reptiles and such they will tell you how to take care of a gecko and you can decide if you want to take on whatever responsibility there is

  2. No, not at all...

I wish I had the talking gecko on the insurance (geico) commercial. HA HA!

  3. Well it depends on what type you get that determines the amount of maintenance, but typically they are not hard to keep their small size and adaptability to their environment allows them to live under non optimal conditions.

  4. Hello; in general no, but that really depends on the type of gecko in question. :)

Golden Geckos for example are pretty high maintenance in their care; particularly with their humidity needs. But there are other species like Leopard Geckos, Viper Geckos, African Fat tailed Geckos, Crested Geckos, and Gargoyle Geckos that are all very easy to keep as far as lizards go.

All are nocturnal so they don't need UV lighting, low maintenance, small, docile, interesting looking, hardy, do quite well with handling, and the African Fat-tails, Vipers and the Leopards in particular make great starter lizards. :)

In case you are interested in further reading; here are care sheets for all of the 'easy' Gecko species I just named:
