Question:

Are Gimelstob's comments a joke gone wrong?

Gimelstob, a 31-year-old veteran of the men's tour, let rip during an interview on US radio, which included describing Czech star Nicole Vaidisova as "a well developed young lady", and calling French pin-ups Tatiana Golovin and Alize Cornet "sexpots".

If he needs to degrade women (jokeingly or not) then perhaps he is hiding behind some other personal issues like p***s envy. LOL

  1. With any luck, he's only joking, but they do seem like rather off-color comments. That said, even in his playing days, he was known as a rather candid character who was prone to speak his mind, sometimes with kind of odd results. It's all part of what makes him one of the more... umm... interesting personalities in the game.

  2. Gimelstob, and his comments, are a joke gone wong.  The guy was a mediocre player at best, and now he's trying to create buzz for himself by throwing out these outrageous comments, probably to boost his broadcasting career, who knows.  His coverage of the Pacific Life and Sony Ericsson events earlier this year was horrible.  His voice is nasal and whiny, and he even made several sexist comments about WTA players, such as calling them "girls" and other derogatory names, which he got chastised for by an obviously irate Chanda Rubin (a fellow commentator) at one point.  The guy is a jerk.

  3. I believe Gimelstob hails from that stupid All American Boys Club branch of tennis where they look down at the female players and tend to see them only as s*x objects. He is an idiot plain and simple. He tries to come across as this funny guy that is willing to anything for a joke, but he lacks the intellect and basic common sense to realize how is jokes and comments can come across as being sexist and down right stupid!!!

  4. I guess that's his way of complimenting them. But, d**n, isn't Alize Cornet a little too young to be talked about that way?

  5. His choice of words was poor.  His stereotyping of certain women players is unfortunate.  However, people should get off their pedestals and realize that much of what he said, though arguably stupid and inappropriate, is what men think of when they watch women play tennis.   Be real - women's tennis is world class and it's bound to be degraded/joked about when you look at how certain players appear to focus more on their attire and appearance than ability to compete at a world class level.

  6. No, he seems to make good and accurate jokes.

  7. he's a typical chauvinist who has absolutely no respect for the female players.

and right. his pathetic attempts at humour are simply as such-attempts.
