What is good bait, and I also heard that 2 grass carp can't breed because they are already a mix of two other fish, is that true, and if so, what fish?

  1. No they are not hybrids...but they are vegetarians....use pea size dough balls, made with flour and creamed corn.....

  2. I've heard that someone caught a grass carp on a par boiled potato.

  3. They are not hybrids, but I think they are an invading species in N. America so you would be advised not to throw them back again. I would use dough balls, they work well on pretty much every type of carp.

  4. Grass carp are more difficult to catch than common carp and mirror carp. They spook very easily and mainly just feed on grass and algae. They do eat bread balls but not as readily as other carp.

Most grass carp and put in ponds by your DNR and have been breed so they cannot have babies. If they are not they overpopulate very quickly. If you still want to try catching them I've heard people use fresh grass clippings too.

  5. GRASS CARP. were brought into the UK years ago from there native country china to stop weed infestation.. When the grass carp were brought in to our ponds and lakes people believed these fish could not be caught on an anglers bait.. It was thought that they only eat the weed.. Anglers then started to catch them by mistake and then led people to believe the fish could actually be caught!

Anyway.. I would advise you to use chum mixer dog biscuits or bits of bread.. Saying that there isnt really any particular bait which grass carp are caught with.. A few years back my dad caught his personal best carp at 22lb 12 oz which was a grass carp.. that was caught on a scopex boilie with just a few free offerings around it..

And yes grass carp deffinatley CAN breed.

  6. Use Weaties. yes the cerial. Get it wet with water and smoosh it into a tight ball. Put a little on a treble hook (about the size of a dime) and weight it down with just enough to stay on the bottom. It will work 100%.
