Question:

Are Gymnastics in the Beijing Olympics rigged?

I forgot about in the women's all around final, when Nastia stuck her vault and only got a 15.150 or something? I know her start value was low, but still. She did everything perfect. Even the announcers were baffled. And did you see Bela Karolyi after the vault finals? He was nearly in tears talking about Sacramone.

  1. The final score is the average of the two vaults

It was lost in the hundreths and thousandths. If Alicia had tried an 5.9 in her second vault rather than a 5.8, then she would have beaten Cheng. Alicia held back and didn't want to even try to do something harder in what is a world level competition - it should have been expected that she would not figure in the finish. Not in such a high level competition. As soon as I saw the 5.8 I knew she had screwed herself out of a medal.

Sure I feel bad for her, but in the olympics, in competition this high a level, you pull out all your big guns.

  2. Yes we have been talking about this for the last 2 hours. Your about to get a lot of people hating on you and the U.S. But I couldnt agree with you more

  3. sending gymnasts under the age of 16 to compete may be against the rules, but it's definitely not uncommon. russia, romania, north korea, and many other countries have admitted to doing it as well. so why is china getting all the criticism? even béla károlyi, that hypocrite, is very much suspected to have sent underage gymnasts. so what is he yelling and screaming about? i agree that china should not falsify the ages of their gymnasts, but please don't single them out and make it seem like they're the only ones that do it, because that's not fair to anyone. if you want more evidence, take a look at the articles cited below.

  4. Yeah, that was absolute c**p.  There is NO WAY you should be able to fall and still get a medal at the Olympic level...unless all the other athletes fall too.  If that wasn't the most obvious case of biased judging I've ever seen then I don't know what is.

  5. yes, even thought the chinese are outstanding in Gymnastics, they landed on their knees and still scored over a 15 on the event. Then the chinese have girls that are too young to compete.

  6. Amercian might not like to hear this but American Paul Hamm in Athen 2004 vault final fell off the entire mat completely but still won gold. Landing is important but not the most important factor of the game. Interesting enough, Amercian forgot to complain about this.

Discuss it in this question thread and please verify the Paul Hamm incident:

Now let’s pick Chinese on something else, like using underage girls, although no solid evidence yet, and have no idea why younger gymnasts perform better than the “hot” older gymnasts who are supposed to be more experienced and skillful.

  7. yeah its messed up. sure the chinese girl had a high start value but landing straight on her knees does not deserve a 15 unless thats how ur supposed to land....

  8. I know excately what you are talking about. My family was just discussing that. And the thing that annoys me is that they used underaged girls to win the gold. So not fair!

  9. I say its rigged for a different reason. 4 of their women gymnasts are below the minimum age of 16 for Olympic competition. The Chinese government made them passports that said they were 16 though, so nobody can prove otherwise. Communists do it again!
