The model is a Glider(?). I'm looking for a knowlegeable answer. It seems to be a constant parts and repair vehicle. Any specifics appreciated...

  1. I can't really speak to the reliability issue as this is my first Harley and it is too new for me to really know anything about repair costs. As to damian's answer, I have not checked the MPG on my bike, but it is much better than my truck. It costs me about $15 a day to drive to work and back on my truck and less than $5 on the bike. Do any of you guys have a reasonably good idea of what MPG your Harley is getting? I will know at my next fill up. Seems to be pretty d**n good though.

  2. Harleys are for the rich and foolish.

They are a status symbol, and an inferior road machine.

If you want the name, you pay the price.

  3. First off you know what kind of bike your getting. I have a Road King and in the last 9000 miles I have put in $000000 dollars for parts other than oil changes. No issues, a great running comfortable bike.

  4. You must be listening to the Harley illiterate on this web site.  They are not, as you say, a "...constant parts and repair vehicle."  I have a 2002 Super Glide.  Other than regular fluid and filter changes all I've had to replace is a headlamp bulb.  It runs great, has no oil leaks, has never broken down on the road and is by far the best bike I've owned.  I've owned Suzuki, Kawasaki and Harley bikes and the Harley has been my favorite.  The up keep on my other bikes was minimal as well.  Do not rule out the Harley because of up keep, that isn't a valid reason.

  5. JB Send me a few $3K top end jobs

In repairs "After I build them" Its just normal maint Oil changes Tires Ect... If you bought a worn out one and keep patching it instead of repairing it then yes it will dollar you to death

Fix it right and forget about it

  6. It will treat you the way you trat it. If ya wanna wind it out everytime ya shift its gonna push back, and that gets pricey. If ya ride like a responsible adult it will be one of the best investment ya ever made.

In other words...dont be a SQUID!

PS hey bad co i think its time for a nap little boy!

  7. I have an '02 Electra Glide. Other than a couple of extra fluids to change (primary and trans), it's about the same to maintain as any metric cruiser I owned. Gas mileage is the same, but HD requires a minimum of 91 octane.

    Don't listen to Joe B....Ever.

  8. Not as long as you don't try to coax a few extra horsepower out of them. Call a HD dealer and find out how much each maintenance interval costs. That will give you a good indication of "up keep" cost.

  9. I just traded a 99 Road King in on a 08 FLHX. The Road King had 67K miles on it other than oil & tires, I replaced absolutley nothing, no brakes, light bulbs, shocks, nothing!   Joe B doesn't know where straight up is at. My friend has 127K on his 97 Evo Dresser and hasn't replaced anything on the engine, If he did have to do the top end it would cost about $500 tops.

  10. Parts can get rather expensive but if you can do the work yourself you will save alot of money.

  11. believe it of not 88ci doesn't get you all that much farther than a car on gas. if you want a bike to ride because you want to ride go for it, to save on gas money don't.

  12. YES

just wait until the HD goes outta warranty, its a MINIMUM cost of $3000 for a top end engine repair!

  13. well i have one thats been good to me but i do have to say the parts i put on are high but i dont know about any others to compare with... ive had little problems with the motor in 70,000 miles its only been in a shop a couple times that i wouldnt do the work my self...ive rode it across country four times and back with no problems..... really there will be people who tells you that theirs is better but its the same as ford and chevy which one is better..... i like my harley... and no i dont work on it hardy at all and i ride it hard ive broken a belt repalce a sprocket brake rotor and rocker gasket dont think thats much for my driving it as much as i do it has over 70,000 close to 80,000 still burning the tire when i want

  14. it's all stigma, the people that say bad sh*t about them have a jealousy issue or something, it's unfounded
