I live here in Maine. Good, useable hay costs now are around 3.50. How much is hay where any other horse person lives.

  1. I've seen prices as high as 5.00. I remember when they were 2.00.I'm in IL.

Try buying bigger bales. They're actually easier to make with the machines so they cost less or the same, so even though they're harder to stack and move, you'll probably save money cuz you'll get more hay.

    just a thought.

  2. Hay prices will probably go up through winter and early spring and then come back down when people start cutting again.  If there isn't droughts and flooding everywhere it will probably go down in most places.  If there is, then it will go back up.

Hay here(eastern Idaho) is $150/ton for grass and $200/ton for alfalfa.

  3. Here in the north okanagan in B.C. hay is $8.00 per 60 lb. bale of grass hay delivered  With the price of land unreal and the cost of fuel it is unlikely the price will ever go down.

  4. I live in Lexington, KY. This time last year, hay/afalfa mix was $4.00 per bale. By Christmas, it had risen to $11 per bale and it's now $7.50 with crappy orchard grass at $5.00

  5. here in Az alfalfais 15.00 for 90 - 110 lb bales prices will more than likely go up because a huge number of fields have been purchased/leased for growing corn for bio fuels.  There is an alternative source for bio fuel in alalgaewhen this is in place it will ease the demand for corn thus returning the fields to production of hay which should be cheaper because the algae bio fuel will be significantly cheaper.. this fuel is already viable and should be available to the general public in six months to a year.

  6. here in N. Georgia, I pay $6.00 for 85 to 95 pound bales of Timothy/Fescue hay. But other people around here charge a lot more for smaller bales of the same thing and not as pretty.

Alfalfa for a 45 pound compressed...it was $12.95 in may...don't know what it is now.

  7. My barn buys hay from a local grower and gets them in massive bales for discounted prices.

I bought hay in 60-70 lb bales(my estimate) of really good orchard grass(first cutting) at 12 dollars per bale for a show. I'm in the NE, pretty much bordering NJ.

  8. Hay is is expensive where I live. I don't know the exact price, but I know that it is very expensive. Riding lesson prices are even going up where I live because of feeding prices. I could ask on my lesson on Monday, if you want me too.

  9. well i live in pa and we make our own hay.

the price to fuel the tractors is unreal and usually were burning about $500 per section of field.

we make mostly an aflfalfa, timothy, orchard grass mix.

we are charging $3.00 for first cutting but after that the price will only go up.

    just wait til winterr. =]

  10. No!  Here in the midwest, we got enough rain, but thanks to our elected officials, and the price of fuel, were right back where we started........Thanks to people buying products from overseas, keep shopping at wal mart, were burning our own bridges.
