lets say a 2001 civic.

I know they're reliable, but I'm not sure they are very safe when compared to Volvo and Volkswagen.

What do you think?

  1. They tend to be involved in the most accidents out of most car models.  I would consider the vehicle to be less safe as compared to a volvo.  The Honda Civics are a lot lighter and the materials used to make them are cheaper and more pliable when going into a car crash.

As a recap the weight of the vehicle would be no match against a pickup truck which could be very dangerous in a high speed crash.

The Honda accord faired lower in the crash tests.  In Both vehicles the head restraint is an issue with the accord being more dangerous.  I have noticed that 14 recalls have been called on 2001 models for the accord as well.  I would be worried about a neck injury etc with these vehicles, and the lack of crumple zone may make it dangerous when hit by a vehicle of larger mass.

Take a look at the crash tests and the star rating of the vehicle, it should be available on line, I will link it when I find it.

They gave the Honda Civic a good test, but notice how the entire engine is crumpled and that is not counting the force of another vehicle hitting it!.
