Question:

Are Hostess Fruit pies and whipped cream an acceptable replacement for wedding cake?

My wife says she could arrange them nicely, and use enough whipped cream to make it look nice. My daughter loves them, and I can't figure out another way to work them into the day. Or would it be better if we used a few cans of frosting?

  1. NO!

  2. I dont know if that is really how you want to remember your wedding day.....but it IS your wedding day......you could always do the new trend with the cupcakes on a stand to look like a cake, then have little side plates with the different hostess items that you want....there are lots of pics of ideas on theknot.com

I'm getting married in 2 weeks and instead of side dishes with hotess cakes, I'm doing oversized martini and wine goblets with candy in them, the color of the wedding.

    Good luck and Congrats!!!

  3. I think the fruit pies are a great idea, but I also think you should have some Hostess Cupcakes there, for the people who want cake.

  4. Of course! It's a nice change off pace and actually a modern trend (cheese cakes, pies, various deserts as an alternative to cake).

Make sure that teh cool whip is propperly refrigerated and applied shortly before serving; otherwise it will become runny and get the pies sticky and saggy.

    Good luck

  5. I'm definitely with TIME on the cool whip.  I think you should have an assortment, though.  Like maybe some swiss cake rolls and some of those oatmeal cookies with the cream filling.  Yum.  It would probably be way better most wedding cakes look nice but taste like barf anyway.

  6. the bride can create her wedding anyway she wants in anyway she wants, its her day, what others think or say is beside the point, its her day!!!!!

  7. Just use the real thing for once...it lasts for ever.

    As many marriages do

  8. It only works because wedding cake isn't intended to be eaten. But you're still pretending they're food.

  9. i wouldnt personally do this cause my family would have a fit.however i dont like cake and would love to go to a wedding where they served hostess fruit pies.i think it pretty cool!

  10. Hostess.....fruit pies?! Honestly, sit back and think about it for a second, on the day you get married, you want yourself, your wife, and all of your guests to be digging their forks into chemically processed and pagacked junk food?! If it's about not having the money to have someone make the cake, consider making it yourself.

Don't make a mess with whipped cream and unclassy junk food. Those things are like pure lard and sugar topped with way too many calories. Do your wife and your guests a favor and think of a healthier, more asthetically pleasing alternative.

  11. I don't see why not.  I'm sure they could be lovely!

But I'm not sure about the whipped cream idea.  Will the cake be kept cool until it's time for the reception?  Maybe frosting would be better...

  12. That might work, but maybe you want to add another layer made out of Ding Dongs too, a lot of people like chocolate.

  13. Umm...save those for a birthday party or backyard barbecue. If you can afford fruit pies you can afford a pretty cake for your wedding reception -- it is once in a lifetime.

  14. Just as long as you mix the pies up, like cherry on one side, and lemon on the other. Use COOL WHIP instead

  15. h**l yeah!  No one wants that nasty wedding fruitcake....fruit pies are awesome.  Just make sure the cherry kind are in there.  Hey, that could be symbolic!  Is the bride a virgin?  Instead of cutting a cake, the groom could just break the bride's cherry pie!
