Are Hybrid cars better ?

People say Hybrid cars are better for the Environment because they have no emissions from the a non-existent exhaust. But the Electricity still has to be produced somewhere, and this somewhere is still pumping out gases into the atmosphere. How can it be better then?

  1. Not better, just more expensive.

They do run a little cleaner, but not that much cleaner.

As for the purchase, you need to compare the cost to an equivalent sized gasoline vehicle.  You need to consider your break even point.  This is usually over 100,000 miles until you saved enough on fuel to make up the hefty price for the hybrid option.

Then, just about the time you break even, you will need to replace the battery pack.  Yes, the battery pack does wear out and will eventually need to be replaced. Then it takes you another couple of years to break even again.

Another thing to consider is that most private mechanics will not work on these vehicles.  Any maintenance will need to be done by the dealer which will cost you significantly more than a private mechanic.

  2. with hybird you save money in gases but the  cars are generally more expensive and if you happen to get in an accident can get shocked to death

  3. it can be better by using the cooking greese i would think $$$

  4. You've been confused - hybrid cars run on fossil fuels (gasoline).  There aren't any on the market yet that don't.  They get better gas mileage than non-hybrids.

What you're thinking of is full electric cars.  With a hydrogen car or an electric car, the car doesn't create any pollution.  The pollution is created miles away in a coal burning power plant.

"How can this be better" - It depends on what you want.

In terms of national security, it could be better because all that energy was locally produced with local resources (whatever that might be).  That is generally the case with electricity already; it's usually local.

In terms of global warming, it could be better because all that energy was produced without burning fossil fuels (like Nuclear, wind, solar, hydro, etc.)

In terms of sustainability, it could be better if all that energy was produced using sustainable technolgy (like solar, wind, hydro, geo, etc.).

In terms of cost, it might be cheaper.  It might be a lot cheaper in some places.

  5. No go with gas cars...

  6. Un- fortunately those that can afford them really don't giva a s**t how much gas costs.
