Are Infrared Radiant Electric Space Heater Portable Furnace safe so you can sleep at night, and do they work?

You're apparently referring to units such as the Edenpure electric heaters.   The simple answer is, yes they're safe, and yes they apparently work quite well, according to a couple of my inlaws who've purchased two of them.  They swear they've saved a significant amount of money this last winter, over what it would have cost them for an equivalent amount of corn for their corn burner, or wood for the wood stove.    They are, however, not cheap.

Infrared heats you up and not the air so it is more economical. My dog has a infrared lamp in her house. The only thing I found is that it dries out your skin, so get some body lotion. If the units are expensive make your own.
