Are Irish dancers hot?

Hey. I've been doing irish dance since i was six. Lord knows how many ppl have told me that Irish dancing isn't real dance (just cuz we don't use our arms???) and that Irish dancing sucked and I should learn how to really dance. They've also told me I'm not a tough enough dancer...guess they haven't seen my feet and how i have to wrap my ankle.

Anyway, just wanted to know what reasonable, rational, open (i hope) ppl think about irish dance. I'm not the real serious kind where i wear wigs and $1000 costumes and go to competitions every weekend. Just me and my group, we do about three competitions a year. What do u think?

  1. No, they are not "hot", but that does not mean that they are not extremely talented, hardworking athletes. It's just that "hot" is not really a correct descriptive term in this case.

"Hot" implies a certain sexiness that is not really subtle. I would never think of Irish dancing in that way. However, anyone who says that it's not "real dancing" couldn't be more wrong, and it's likely they don't know a thing about any kind of dancing if they would make such a stupid comment.

  2. I think they are just jealous.  Irish dancing takes talent, endurance, hard work and comittment!  It is beautiful and fun to watch.  Keep up the good work and maybe someday, The Riverdance will be calling. :O)

  3. I cant say that all irish dancers  are "HOT" BUt anyone  who thinks its not dance because your arms remain still, should just try doing  many of the movements  without the use iof your arms for balance as one would in doing "TAP" ... I am not a dancer at all, I mean I have  gotten up on the floor and moved around to music, in social settings .. But Not in the trained sense.... When I turned 30 I had and jumped on the chance To take up the pipes as a kid I felt no need to do anything to draw attention to myself , but as a musician I learned  one of the best lessons in my life,  To do what you do and do it proudly , No matter what anyone else "thinks" as long as you love doing it, you will  gain therespect and possibly love of folks around you  that respect you for your convictions,,  I learned a new respect for the ethnic aspects of the pipes' Celtic  roots and beyond to a lesser extent as well as a respect for OTHER aspects  of Celtic culture, Including Your Interest in dance...  I have always  liked  "swing" and some jazz, some classical music which is kinda weird for a 60's  R & R  era kid,as far as dance goes , Swing always impressed me,  thedacnes  that go along isso much more awesome  then when I grew upin the 70's  when NO one ever danced ata HS Dance..lol, Point is  The learning of the pipes for me  was ata time when Pipe music was either  Scots or Irish and Bon Scott  Played his  one  little Part in his one little rock video which was so "new" a concept.... Today We play the Scots classics and Irish Classics The military  classics and Classical such as Ode to Joy, constrantly pushing the envelope, we have so many Rock Bands and Celtic Rock bands thatr have popularized  the pipes in music...   Irsih dancers can thank toa large extent Flatley  and Riverdance  ( as corny as it might seem at times) for doing it big/bringing it to the masses,   But it has to take the next step beyond and grow as well,  Its hard to say what Opened the door Braveheart, Rob Roy Movies, Riverdance, and subsiquent shows, celtic rock bands Classic gaelic and celtic bands as well as the old Favorite  Irish folk bands, bluegrass and country and its ties back to celtic .( even Clogging"... ITS all GREAT stuff  if you  take the time to LOOK at it... I would suggest  IF anyone says what you do is NOT dance for them to show you anything anywhere Near as physical  as  Step dancing for  cardio ..:)
