  1. These feisty, fearless little dogs are high energy, so the key to training them is LOTS of exercise!  They are very intelligent, but headstrong, and they need to know who is in charge! Not them! walking your Jack Russell 30 minuit's twice daily, will not only establish your role as pack leader, but will help to get the 'naughties' out of them. They are a big dog in a little body and not afraid of anything, so a firm hand is needed to control them. My sister lets hers use a treadmill to help with their need to walk.

  2. I had one and It died of disease,And there very playful and freindly..So I say they might be hard to train,But yes they can be trained with patience and wiseness. ;]

  3. I have a 7 month Jack Russell. I love her dearly...but she is such a handful! She is extremely hyper and is aggressive at times. I took her to obedience school and she was the perfect student! She is extremely smart and very eager to please...HOWEVER when she's excited, she's a different dog! She won't listen. She's very stubborn. She jumps high up into people's faces and sometimes bites them.

Jack Russells are very loving too. I would not recommend getting one though if you have small children. They could probably knock them down with their jumping.

  4. Let's just say you need patience!

    lol.

  5. No dog is hard to train if you are consistent.

Please make sure to do lots of breed research, Jack Russells are not for everyone.

  6. Not really. You must be consistent with your training. They can be stubborn, but they are highly intelligent and catch on quickly to what your teaching them.

Jrts are used a lot as dogs in movies, commercials.. etc. Since they are highly intelligent.

I've been training dogs for years, and I have to say Jrts are my favorite. Then again, I am partial to them since I've shown, worked, and studied them for 9 years. They're my favorite breed.

  7. They are very "hyper" they are very very very friendly though, but the hyperactivity proves too much for alot of people;however to answer your question, they can be trained for obstacle courses because they love the activity. really the only thing I see wrong is how hard it is to housebreak them. Other than that the hyperactivity isn't really going to hurt anyone and their friendliness makes up for it. ;-)

  8. I haven't had any problems with my russell terrier.

  9. Yes!  Jack russells are notoriously hyper and stubborn

  10. I don't have a Jact Russell but I have a Rat Terrier which are really similar.  She is soo smart, and wants to please so much.  The only thing that is of concern is their hyperness.  They have a lot of energy so you need to be aware of that as long as you can deal with that they are great dogs.  My dog is only 6 months old and she learns a new trick while she eats her morning meal.  I occasionally hand feed her, her morning meal and in that time I can teach her a new trick (sit, down, over, leave it, take it, etc. etc.)  Also, a lot easier to housetrain than my chi.
