Are Japanese students that study abroad wealthy?

I am having a Japanese student come to live with me and my little family while he is here to learn english. We are getting paid from his school for room and board which is great. Im just curious, are Japanese student who study abroad usually wealthy?? What was your experience?

  1. I'm not sure if they are all weathy, but I can tell you that if they are coming to the US to study english, then they will be very greatful for the expirience whether or not they are rich. I'm unsure how old this exchange student is, but if it's college, then I know for sure that they want to learn as much as they can from an american family and practice their english. They will be very polite and of course very greatful for the chance.


  2. no, not all of them, but you are really generalizing. One friend at school who was a Japanese exchange student came from a "middle" class family who saved and saved for her to go. She was really cool, and VERY polite. But thats just my experience, you have to remember your generalizing.

  3. Generally I would say no as I think the average Japanese family is poorer than Westerners may think they are. A lot of people save up to visit/study abroad. I think it's the same for Americans who do a study abroad program in Europe or something like that. I have met very few Japanese with money but that may be because my mother is from the poorest prefecture.
