Are Joe Theismann's comments about Ricky Williams justified?

Earlier this week, Joe Theismann went on ESPN radio and called out the Toronto Argonauts and Ricky Williams, calling Williams "a disgrace to the game", and called the signing "a feeble excuse for [the Argos] to sell tickets". The story can be found at:

Do you agree with him?

  1. No doubt, I agree with his comments. Joe can sometimes get out of hand with some of his comments. I do think, that he hit this one right on the bull's eye. No question, Ricky William will be tested again and probably more than any other player when his suspension is over.

  2. Gee I seem to recall Theismann not getting that worked up when the Rams drafted Lawrence Phillips after he had beaten his ex-girlfriend (dragging her down several flights of stairs by her hair in the process)and had a few other run ins with the law.  I'm not defending Ricky Williams but don't you think violence against a woman is much worse than smoking some dope?

  3. Joe Theismann is a d**k!!!

The only legitimate comment Theismann made was that the signing of Williams would sell tickets. Duh! If Williams was playing in Buffalo, Cleveland, San Diego, he would sell tickets. What a genius you are Joe!

I'm not an Argo fan, but I am a Ricky fan. If Theismann thinks Ricky is a disgrace to the game, then why hasn't he made any comments about Michael Irvin? How many chances has Irvin used up, yet he still gets a television contract.

Theismann just wants his name in the news. He said he was embarrassed to have worn the "A" on his helmet. The Argos should be embarrassed to have had Theismann worn the "A" after the comments he made.

If Theismann believes Williams is a disgrace to the game, then Theismann is a disgrace to humanity. When he went through his divorce in 1996 (?), he admitted to committing adultery because... "God wanted him to be happy". Who's been smoking what? He tried to renege on a "gift" to his former wife by lying in a court of law that his intention of giving her half of the property of the farm was not given to her. The court proved him wrong and his ex-wife won the case.

Joe Theismann is a d**k!!!! Have I said that, yet.

As for Ricky Williams playing in the CFL and working with Pinball Clemens, it can only be a positive experience for Williams. Clemens is arguably the most popular man in Toronto and could run for mayor of the city and win. He has a positive influence on everyone around him, and could be a key ingredient to getting Williams' life turned around.

Of course the Argonauts know that having Ricky in the lineup will sell tickets. I'm sure the season ticket sales have shot through the roof.

  4. I am from Toronto and I think the Argo's are no good.  Ricky Williams is a premiere athlete without a doubt.  As a marijuana smoker I can vouch for the fact that it is not a preformance enhancing drug.  Canadians are looking to decriminalize it.  If the world stepped back and looked at the bigger issues, they'd see that even though Sticky Icky Ricky tokes up from time to time it doesn't make him a disgrace to the game.   PS - Aren't all pro teams trying to sell tickets?  Big Names = Seat Sales , weed or no weed
